You can use this topic to discuss the 7.5.2 release.

Thanks for the quick fix to the 7.5.1 bugs.

Question: I'm already at 7.5.1. Is there a list of changed files that I can upload to get to 7.5.2 without having to go through the whole upgrade process?

Thanks!

When you download the zip file in the install folder is a file called upgrade_changes.txt.
It will list all the files changed by version

Mine went fine but it's basically a test forum for this one so not a lot of data to manipulate.

If I am forced to believe the changelog, this bug: https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/u...Icon_not_flashing_since_.html#Post224521 say's "fixed" but didn't make it into the 7.5.1 and the 7.5.2. release :-(

Hi all,

How would I go about applying to be a beta tester for version 8? Although my php/mysql skills are pretty shoddy I think I could offer some helpful input on the html/css side of things. As you can see from my forums (link below) I've customised ubbthreads' templates quite a bit in the past...

I'm not sure I would even qualify.

I run multiple versions of the Linux operating system and own my own little data center. My regular forum does on average of 250 posts a day with an average of 187 active members on a monthly basis with over 600 registered users. I'm generating over 39,000 page views per month on average as well.

I believe all beta testers are selected by Rick; at this point i think we've got a pretty large group of testers already...

As I recall, cant find it as the search function is BROKE again, that Rick said that his beta testing staff has dropped off recently and these latest releases have not been tested as much as the previous versions. He also stated that he was thinking of recruiting new beta testers.

I believe you have posted in on this conversation as well Gizmo as you replied to one or two of my posts in that thread.

I have several recommendations then if that's going to be the case; but I haven't heard anything official...

you sir, are correctamundo.. matter of fact there are 'beta testers' who really don't test at all and it's been that way for quite awhile..

Well, in my case it would be more to do with checking over the template files/css styles than actually beta testing on a range of hardware, as I believe version 8 will move away from table based layouts to more modern display methods. But anyways, the offer is there.

Keen to get some jQuery loveliness bolted onto ubbthreads too and lose those pesky popup windows in favour of lightboxes, for example.

is there a way to just install the modified files? it seems like a complete install everytime.

EVEN if there was another zip that had those files we have to delete everytime..

Or is there an easier way?

You could use a differencing tool to confirm and update only changes but that might be just as time consuming as running the update. Also from time to time there are DB structure changes that just replacing new files would not make that change and the average user wouldn't know how to make the change or might accidentally do it wrong and break their site.

Even doing the file change difference can be done wrong if you're not careful. So even though there may be some users that can handle it there are probably many more that can not and it might open a can of worms for support trying to maintain different packages.

Well suppose one has to clarify that as I certainly don't recall any documentation requiring any specific feedback, code check, input, etc when Rick has added testers. Yourself and a couple others really go the extra mile and do a LOT compared to most of the rest of us though and I'll give you that in spades, but to say that others don't test at all is possibly a bit inaccurate, but then again that's my own perception and I could be wrong.

I've tested many things myself but I know I don't always provide frequent feedback, so if Rick wants or requires a more structured tester then I think that should be clarified.

Once 8.0 is getting close to an actual private beta then we'll probably look at the current group of beta testers, clarify what we need and maybe add a couple new ones if needed. We'll definitely need active testers that have some time since there will be a lot of testing to do.

I always use the upgrade script. By the time you go thru the upgrade_changes.txt file and then go thru the altertable files it would be done already.

Looking at your homepage you are on 7.5 and 7.5.2 does alter the tables.

There are some things that are just so great about ubbthreads.

One that I am not that fond off is that I would have to buy a license for every site..

I use another package, and when ever there is an upgrade, I click a button, my CP has all the ftp stuff, and it updates the software, I think of that everytime I update threads...

I'm guessing that you're referring to maybe on in like a Fantastico or other CPANEL/PLESK control panel that has certain Web Script applications that it installs.

Not sure what the licensing model is or how they get selected to be in there. Maybe something to do with fully free? Not sure.

I always test mine too. When I know its working on my test site I bring it to my live site to test in an open environment. Going in for surgery soon, but I have the time.

While we will be doing some stuff via internal FTP in version 8, permissions, etc. doing upgrades this way is a bit tough. If we were free software it would be easy peasy. Since we're not, there would need to be some sort of authentication layer so a bit more involved.

Not saying that it's out of the question that we'll do that someday, it's just there would be a few extra hurdles for us.
