If you set yourself to invisible, your online status can still be seen in the userlist.

And for that matter, having a "last online" date displayed anyway would show your online status also.

A good replacement could be "the last post date", but it would have to be a post in a forum where the viewer has read access. So databasewise that might not be such a good thing

This caused some very strong reactions at our forum for obvious privacy reasons.

I threw it out, including the buggy online indicatator.

I would love to have the online indicator back, the last online date should really be am optional setting.

so peeps in your forum posted (publicly) about not being allowed to browse the forum (privately) on a mostly public forum ?

i think they are being too picky..

But agree, it's stupid you can check a box to hide your online status, and it's perfectly hidden one page 1, but fully blown shown on page 2. And that's beside the bug of the online indicator.

There are valid reasons to why to hide the online status, if there was no valid reason, the option wouldn't be in there for like, as long as I can remember.

well 'stupid' might be harsh.. i guess technically ANY bug or non-implemented rational feature with the stock php code could be deemed stupid then..

oh well, no biggie to me since i disable allowing peeps to be invisible in the 1st place..
