So I'm poking around and saw several of Google's April Fools this year, and I must say, Tisp is far better than CADIE. I didn't bother with any April fools at my sites; just not into them anymore :/... So, my question to you; what was your favourite April Fools this year? How about of all time?

I publish a fishing site. One year I redirected my site to PETA. People were freaking out, thinking the site got hacked. A local TV station even did a story on it, thinking the site really was hacked. (They never even contacted me to check.)
Other years I came up with stories like the site being sold or me not having time to do it anymore. The board was closed down entirely for the day. People freaked and the emails poured in.
Yesterday I posted a bogus story about a new world record fish that many are seeking (largemouth bass). Not as over-the-top as other years, but it got a few people.

I "backgraded" the forum at ubbdev to an earlier 5.x series - was pretty funny when people showed up One year we forwarded everyone to one of several other sites, most everyone thought we were hacked

Now that sounds fun... Hack all of the template files and stylesheets to make a theme that looks like an old (anciently old) classic or threads build... but it running completely current code lol...

Like the template joke.
I also wanted to find a away to serve the forum upside down. It would be fully functional, just upside down.
Possible for one of you coding experts?

Not necessarily; I went to a site demo'ing a lot of the filter css3 codes, and FFox3 would only render a small few of them...

Isn't IE in all it's variants still the most widely used?
Ooops - I guess not!

Yes - I see that now. I haven't been keeping up with the shares!!!
...and you are correct, it doesn't work with FF.
Well, it would still cause quite a stir in the community with a half to a third saying the screen was upside down and the others saying - what the hell are you talking about???

Wait, lets just screw with the ie people and tell them to switch to firefox lol...

</script> I just did it on my forum. The flip works in IE8 but not in Firefox 3.6.2.

Seriously? Why don't you just use Notepad.exe? Or MS Paint?
guest@xkcd:/$ emacs
You should really use vim.

The below worked. If you do anything for April Fool's on your forums, post here.
<script type="text/javascript"> document.body.style.MozTransform = 'rotate(180deg)'; document.body.style['-webkit-transform'] = 'rotate(180deg)'; </script>

Mitch, instead of using your script, add this to the "Extra Properties" section of the Style you want to turn upside-down. body {
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
-moz-transform: rotate(180deg);
-webkit-transform: rotate(180deg);
-ms-transform: rotate(180deg);
-o-transform: rotate(180deg);
transform: rotate(180deg);
} This will allow users to turn OFF the upside-down by selecting a different style. You could also just duplicate your main style, add this to it and call it "main upside-down" or whatever. Then set that as the default style for the day dont forget to reset your default style to the correct one when you're done having fun.

Copying the shoutbox posts, since they're amusing: driv: In the UK, April Fool only lasts until 12 noon. I turned my UBB upside down but got stuck in traffic and didn't restore things 'til 12.30 - I got lots of complaints from my stuffy academic members about that. frown Gizmo: Rofl, that's a good one... Gizmo: Does anyone else have any good showings? Gizmo: I once turned off my forum for 12 hours with a "we're closing up shop" message, members wheren't very happy... back when the site was relevant anyhow. Gizmo: UBB.threads looks surprisingly nice a television... id242: use the SNOW java that you would normally use at xmas time, but instead of snow, use a smilie face id242: change the postside/posttop {$signature} code to url that links to the rick-roll video. get creative for what you call that link. everyone's sig will give teh rickrollz id242: (dont forget to change it back... or actually, forget to change it back until April 3rd) smile id242: make a backup of your images/gremlins/defa ult directory, and have all the image be "laugh.gif" (or use .htaccess to do this) id242: use a javascript to flib just the images on your entire website. id242: or just simply flip your website's logo for the day, by using a photo editor. no script/html hacking needed. id242: If you use LEFT/RIGHT COLUMNS, you could just reverse them for the day. its quite harmless and very simple to do. it doesnt mess with your site's display, but may catch a few people off guard.
