I moderate a forum on an 'assistant' level. (i'll remove any spam or porn, but i let others decide who gets banned)

We once had a mod that was wonderful -- liked her very much. But she left years ago and her post is vacant. Am i able to change her user status from Administrator to member? Meaning that I'm wondering if it's possible for me get her password when she's a 'member.'

I know this might sound very shady. And i don't know if i'll actually do this. I'm just doing a little research before approaching other Mods with ideas. Thanks in advance for reading my question.

The forum is UBB 6.2.0.

Mods shouldn't be able to edit other mod's (or admin's for that matter) at all within the software; I believe only admin's are able to edit mods (and other admin's).

As for the password, you'd have to use the "become this member" function, and I am unsure if this is available to mod's at all.

Then again, I'm not experienced on threadsv6 so who knows.

I would however state that you'd have some ethical delema's that you should likely bring up with your admin before even bothering with other mod's.

Thanks very much for responding, Gizmo. I appreciate it.

What admin? confused

Actually I am in error here. My previous post was not entirely accurate.

When i said 'approaching other Mods' i meant approaching the new guy who stepped in to the admin position -- him and maybe one of his associates. I like him but he's clearly doing it because it's his new job. I'm sure that he could do without the headaches.

I'm the last mod standing -- by default (actually i have 'administrator' status).

I do not want to come to the new Admin with a delemma. There've already been too many. I want to come to him with solutions. EDIT to add: Actually this Admin would likely prefer to NOT know exactly what i'm doing.

Again, Gizmo, thanks for your response.

Using someones password in my opinion would be unethical by any means. Which is why I am glad I don't use classic anymore because it was to easy to obtain with the flat file system.
In fact I don't even like using the become member feature in ubb threads. Unless I get permission from the member to do so which is extremely rare.
But if you are in fact the admin and you have ftp access to the site it would be very easy to find the password in the member files. Hence why I like ubb with encrypted passwords.

Thanks for posting Ruben.

At this point I have yet to use someone else's password in a UBB board. (other than one time i went in to clean out someone's inbox, at his request)
