Running board 7.4.1 @ http://www.ironycentral.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrmSo all our messages and board registrations etc. are bouncing to the admin as undeliverable suddenly. The error in the email we get says "Gid 1702 is not permitted to relay mail, or has directly called /usr/sbin/exim instead of /usr/sbin/sendmail." Our ISP support says I need to point our mail delivery configuration to "/usr/sbin/sendmail". I have no idea how to do this and as far as I can tell there is no place to specify this in our the Master Settings-Paths. Does anyone have a suggestion or know of how to do this? Mariann Krizsan

I believe the UBB just sends mail wherever PHP is compiled to send it... So this would be an ISP issue...

Not to be smart but it is ironic that your host is bouncing your mail from your board and their name is "Bounceweb Web Hosting"

My ISP's php (which I got from the tools-PHP Info forum page on my control panel) has the path to sendmail as /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
What's the deal with the -t and -i? Should a PATH have extensions like that?

yes, that's fine.
It's saying that the user your php is running as has no permission to relay mail on your server.
Sometimes this is caused when the "From" email is not one native to that server. Like, you put a generic email address or domain in there and there is no such real address on that server.

I thought that exim is associated with a smtp server. If that is true double check your mail setting. Older versions of ubb allowed you to set the smtp or sendmail path. The newer versions only allow you to set the smtp path.
So check: Control Panel » Primary Settings>General + Advanced Options Use specified SMTP Server: Make sure you don't have anything in the field. If you are using sendmail this field should be blank.
Maybe your host allowed smtp for some time and now does not allow it.
You might want to also check: » Primary Settings>General Board Email Address: And make sure it is a valid address from your host server. Not something like a aol or hotmail address which would not be recognized coming from your server.
