I Upgraded to 7.5.3 and a lot of people can not get in and say the temp passwords do not work
What may cause this?
I lot of people can not get in and when they request a temp password what they get... they say it does not work

???

This is one complain from my members and many look similar to that:

I have been a member of xxx since 2002. I am not able to log on to the website. I did not lose my password. The log in page does nothing when I try to log in. This started about 2 days ago. I have AOL, if that makes a difference. I really miss the board. Please get back to me and let me know what is wrong. Thank you.

If you would post your URL I will give it a try to register and use the lost password.
It might possibly be the "HTTP Referer Check"
Caused by member software such as Internet security settings.

Part of the reported problem was

The log in page does nothing when I try to log in.

Can you get them to clarify on that? Does it not submit at all?

Okay PinkMelon I remembered your URL and tried it. I was successful with registration with a few errors.
Also I requested a lost password with the same errors but the email was sent.
When I login with the temporary password I get. An error " Incorrect password for that username". If I login with the original I am successful but again get errors.

Here is the errors I get. Same for all functions but with a different file for each function
No matter what I select Forum,Topic, Login, Lost password,Board rules, Etc
I am prompted to download or save a file the first attempt. I viewed one file when prompted to download for login and it looks like where the cookie is attempting to be set.
I have never seen that before so I don't have a clue.
I will assume it may be a file permission error.

If this is the site you are referencing **buyers.com. Using ubbv7.5.3
I also recall you told me at one time some mods were in place.
Maybe this is the culprit?

The problems continue.
Some of the people having trouble use MS Explorer, the latest version... they can not login...
But htey have no problem when they switch to firefox

I use exporer 8 here... so it works for me here... i have it set to remember me...

But on my site with explorer 8 i enter the user name and password and just takes me to the forum list, no errors, and not login...

Is the login not compatible with the latest explorer... or the 64 bit version?

Does explore need certain update on server software to work well, or does not work with something?

Rick:
Thank you very much for answering my PM so fast. The solution you proposed seems to have resolved the problem

"...You might try swapping the control panel settings under Primary -> Advanced where it asks you if you want to allow access from multiple URLs or force a url. Whatever you have selected currently, change that to the other option and see if it works...."

Thank you very much

Still do not understand why it would be different in Explorer and Firefox but I am glad it works with both now

Thanks

Thank you ruben for taking the time to test and posting the results.
Will check on that too.
Some of the problems are resolved... will check on the temp password...

You had no problem with normal login with explorer?

This is so strange!

I only tried Firefox yesterday.
Today I tried IE8 and firefox and everything appears to be working on both browsers now.
Including temporary passwords.
