I have a lot of car events that take place over 3 or 4 days... In order to post these, I need to enter them over and over.

How about a modification that allows you to post a CALENDAR EVENT that crosses (and displays) over multiple days?

+1 on this request.

We run our forum to support a sailboat class organization and have many multi-day events like regattas. I like that you can announce an event as a forum topic and can also have it display on the calendar. It would be much more useful if there were a dropdown or pop-up dialog box that appears when making the entry if you want to enter something as a repeating event. Suggestions for the repeating event entry include:
  • daily for x days or until y date (with option to include or exclude weekends)
  • weekly
  • monthly & yearly already exist on the calendar function.

HERE is what I suggested a while back.
But I don't believe we will see such an enhancement at least until ver8.0 comes out.

and why not? i'd almost do it myself, if there was an API that guaranteed it would be future proof.

I'd much rather have some of these improvements added to the current calendar process than see some of the new MOOD features that have creeped in... For my money, there are too many non-value-added features being introduced instead improvements to existing functions. (It's tough sometimes to tell the difference between function and fluff.)

Good comments everyone. Maybe we can get some time allocated to this in the next upgrade.

Two things I'd like to see - change the default from Private to Public in addevent.inc.php, and add a new capability to create calendar events that span multiple days.

The multiple day event feature would be a real time saver. Most of the events on our calendar are 3-5 days long

I suggested the same thing for multi day events a while ago for the exact same reason... (custom van shows)

I think there are quite a few asking for this.
In fact I have a post somewhere above this post with a link to my original request. Asking to have something like outlook calender recurrence. Which allows you to repeat by day week or month. Including specific days like last Monday of the month etc.
Rick has not said anything yet about this in v8 but he really just started on the control panel section.

I had sent Gizmo a calendar I used to use that had some great features, but the script was poorly written and was broken on a PHP update on the server, (author stopped supporting it)

but it had multi day listings, recurrence listings, and would parse address info into google maps.

would also remember the location information if you wanted... great features IMHO, and would love to see them added to the forums calendar.

I'd be happy to send rick the original files if I can find them so he could take a look and maybe get some ideas.....?

I've actually written a standalone calendar that has recurring and multi-day listings. It's just written in Ruby, so will end up porting this over for version 8.
