Is there any way to simply just "turn off" PMs for a specified user? I am trying to, but it seems difficult. Links remain. It would be good if it was just a clean "on/off" system and if it is "off" then basically there is no mention of them for that user and no-one can contact that user.

Unfortunately, not at this time. The links wll be there, they just won't have the permission to send one. We'll be working on cleaning this up so if they don't have permission they won't see the link.

Right now, even if you turn off permissions, people can send PMs using the dropdown that appears on the left side when you click on a username in a thread.
