Hey there, resident wizards. I have 2 things I'd appreciate help with.
1) Having been away from my board for several years, now upon returning I've been flooded with pictures. Everyone wants to post them at the board but they don't know how. I can't remember. Something with the 'img' button, yeah?
2) Before I left, I had somehow created a 'mugshots' page where there were a bunch of pictures of all the members posted conveniently on one page. I wouldn't even know where to begin now. All I do remember is needing them to email me their pics, then uploading it through FTP, then having to manually type in all the names of the pics (ie no 'browse to' option). It was a royal pain in the backside. Is there no better/easier way? And if not, could you outline the steps for me again?

The stock ubb does not have a feature for your needs. You can try over at ubbdev. There used to be a add on hack. It was called something like uploader or attachment. It would allow users to upload files with their posts. Try searchin in the classic section for it. There were a few hacks for this over the years.
Of course threads has this built in now.

Unless you installed one of the upload hacks. You probably used your option 2. Members sent you the file. You uploaded them. Then posted a link to the file. There was never a stock option to to that with classic. I don't recall that feature to be available even with the avatars then.

In the classic section, I see lots of mods for "6.7 [beta]"...will those work on mine (6.7.1)?

Possibly. Most of the beta stuff had some issues, if you read the replies to them. But also a lot of them worked fine the first try. So they might still be listed as beta because everyone moved on to threads. Or they never fixed the issue because they moved on to threads. The only way to know is to install one and see.
I would strongly suggest you try them on a test forum first.
Maybe Allen will visit this post and make a suggestion if he recalls what hack was the most bug free.

I don't have a clue how you did it. If you placed them all on one page, you probably just made a html page with all the pictures. Or you used some type of software or site to link to. All I can say is there was never a feature like that at all in classic. It did not even have the gallery feature.

Okay just had a brain fart. There was a photo album hack at one time for classic and it worked quite well. I will have to mull on it a bit. I recall the person was in canada. Something like Bill Bobbit. Okay I found the post and it looks like the hack may still be there. His name was Mike Bobbit and you can visit one of his posts at UBBDEV HERE I used this for quite some time and it worked very well but it is a little complicated to get up and running as I recall.

I never used any hacks or mods...strange. I must've been a helluva lot patience when I was in my 20s'. Yes I found what you mentioned, it seems to be an ideal candidate for something like this. Here's the link to the thread: https://www.ubbdev.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/199367/5.htmlOnly thing is, having read the whole thread, I haven't a clue what anybody's talking about. How the heck do I install it?

HERE is a link to his site for the album. It looks like all the support docs are still in place. You would just need to install it as per directions.

A little more memory recall. I think it worked as a standalone product but it would use the classic member files for who can use it to upload. So there are several path items to address when you install it.

At one time in classic without a hack you were able to have your photo, not an avatar, on your profile page. I do not remember what version it was but do remember it as part of the classic feature on that version.
Ok it is in my version I am using, just checked.
CP >> Profile Settings >> Standard & Custom Fields >>Picture - Show & Require, Show, Hide.

I don't think there is a bridge between the UBB and the Manalto gallery (though it is one of my favorite choices for gallery scripts personally).

Alright, I'm gonna start with the uploader mod. Maybe I'll add the gallery later but it seems like too big a hassle for now. The instructions mention perl and stuff I know nothing about.
Anyway, on the uploader mod, I'm add the point where I'm instructed to find vars_worldlets_cp2.cgi
All the instructions say to do is 'add in'...add in where? Anywhere? Before the ; & } at the end I'm assuming, yes?

well that is why I suggested the bobbit mod. Perl in your case is just cgi files which is what you are using now. And it does not require editing any classic files.
I am not sure what up loader you finally selected. But if you want to pursue either one. Then I would suggest to post your questions at UBBDEV as a reply on the the mod in question.
Since this site really does not support modifications. Much less classic anymore. And then people will know which mod you are talking about. And what version you are using.

Gotcha...so you're saying the gallery thing is easier than what I'm doing now?
As a general rule, when you're instructed to merely "add" some text, would you add it at the end or beginning...or would it work anywhere inbetween?

For that file you could add it just about anywhere. Just look for similar format for the line. And just stick it in.. So where you see "q!upload" as a line just stick it in there just below the last one but before the closing statement and you may want to add a comment so you know what it is for in the future.
And don't forget. Backup, then backup and then backup again when making changes
I just think the album would be safer for you. It is just a little difficult to set all the paths. As I recall some are absolute and some are just urls and it was not clear which was what. Besides it really works stand alone from classic so if you hose it up it won't break your board.

Also I don't know how you value your time. But for $99.00 You can renew your membership access here and just upgrade to the latest threads. Assuming you have the requirements PHP,Mysql on your host.

That has a gallery and users can upload files & everything?
Also, if you would refresh my memory, when I upgrade do I have to set everything up again? What does it entail?

Would you know off-hand where cp2_forumedit.pl & cp2_forums2.cgi are located? They're not in the cgi-bin like everything else.

Okay, This site has the latest greatest version. If you visit the gallery forums or test forums you can see and or test some of the features. And goto your mystuff menu at the top of the page and check out the preferences and profiles settings. Also some features available are not turned on here. But most are.
It will not be much different to hack up your board than just upgrading. You just need to be sure you have the minimum server requirements at your host. Most all have php. But the most critical is MYSQL. Otherwise threads will not work at all without it.
So here are the steps. Renew your license which is the pricing & order. Select renewal. You will need to have your license info. Pay $99.00 This gives you access to the members area for one year. In this page you have access to the latest threads software and the last classic version and some importers from classic to threads which you will need. You can ask the question but I think since you are using classic 6.x you don't really need to upgrade to classic 6.7.2 before upgrading to threads 7.5.3 Then the upgrade begins. You can pay someone to upgrade for you be it UBB,or someone else that may solicit you here. Or do it yourself.
You will then upload the new files, set file permissions, setup your mysql database, run the importer script and then go through the control panel to input your settings. I know it sounds like a lot but it really is simple. Especially if you have done it once.
It also gets easier when not upgrading from classic. So if a new version comes up. It is just a simple matter of running upgrade.php

Would you know off-hand where cp2_forumedit.pl & cp2_forums2.cgi are located? They're not in the cgi-bin like everything else. cp2_forumedit.pl is in the noncgi/templates folder cp2_forums2.cgi not sure there is a cp2_forums.pl in the noncgi/templates folder. That might be it. I am looking at v6.7.2 and like I said before some files have changed. So you would open the file and see if you have similar content to find and replace.

You mean ubb/templates?
And with cp2_forums2.cgi, I've got cp2_forums.cgi but not forums2. I don't suppose I could just skip this and hope everything will work out.
Is every file that has .cgi extension going to be in the cgi-bin?

well the default folder is noncgi/templates but your install may have used a different structure. As far as forums2 file. No you can't skip it. Assuming you are using the beta version. It could have been a file name change on the version you are using. Such as the extension went from .cgi to pl or vice-versa. Or the file name changed. You need to search for the code string you are replacing or even a partial search because if your version is newer the string may not be quite the same. Like I said it is a chore.
And I would not rely on all .cgi files being in the same folder. And the same goes for .pl or other extensions

How do I determine if I'm using beta...I'm almost sure it's not, it's just 6.7.1
The strange thing is I downloaded an updated version of the mod which was designed to work with 6.7.3 (it says it works on 6.7.x in the instructions). Both versions refer to forums2.
How would I go about doing a search for code string?

Okay I don't wish to sound curt but you really need to start posting at ubbdev. Searching for a string is simply using a search across all of your files for the subject text that you are looking for to replace or add a insert in a file. This means not having a file open and search for a pattern of text but to search a whole folder for the text pattern. So for me I use a utility called grep for windows. Because windows search does not work for files with double extensions such as mysql.inc.php.

As far as using beta it is not the classic program. But the modification you are attempting to add in is a beta version. So you need to pay attention to what version it was designed for and what issues were reported for that mod.

Yeah, I've got a post at ubbdev, you're too helpful for your own good mate. So I guess I need to dl all the ubb files via ftp, and then do a text search on them. Boy you weren't kidding. Has that ever happened to you where you're missing a file?

In general, when it only says "add" and not in a particular location (like the wordlets file) just add it in the file so it is similar to the other lines: q!admin_content! => q!Content Management!, q!admin_display! => q!Display Options!, q!admin_forums! => q!Forums!, q!admin_home! => q!Home!, q!admin_maint! => q!Maintenance!, etc... We used to have a 'mugshots' page at ubbdev way back when... http://ubbdev.com/staff.php
