Length of suject line in a new post - can it be longer

A lot of my users are bitchin at me about the fact that a cut and paste of an article header gets cut off and ask if it can be longer - is it possible please?

Control Panel ยป Display Options -> Post/Reply Page Options. There is a setting for it in there with a maximum value of 255 characters.
