when I enable this option in the primary settings, I can't get past my portal page.. I click on forum list and it always takes me to the portal page.

Generally this will occur when your host doesn't allow the path_info php variable in the configuration.

Lack of configuration knowledge? Not sure, it's not really considered a security risk so I don't know why anyone wouldn't have it on...

I sent my host a request for it.. hopefully they won't give me any crap about enabling it.

I would like to think that considering how long I have been with this host (12 years) that they would enable it as long as there is no valid security reason not to.

Well, true... Though a lot of hosts don't really care about their customers (which is a real shame, every client should be treated like family vs a payment)

my current host used to treat me better... when they first started up I was one of their first customers, the guy was running the business out of his house.. could call any time.. gave me his pager number if I ever needed something after hours..

he gave me extra storage space for free, helped me with scripts and other stuff... then he mysteriously died.. his wife took over, company moved its server farm to NY, and their customer service took a dive, but it seems to have improved again slowly... I have never had a problem with them that they weren't able to fix.

this is the answer I was given...
Quote
PATHINFO works fine, except there is a php bug with it.

If your using php, php breaks it, and you probably need to have it look for $_SERVER["ORIG_PATH_INFO"] also, instead of just $_SERVER["PATH_INFO"]

A search/replace should get it working.

UBB.t7 I believe looks for orig_path_info as of ~7.3 so that isn't really it...

You could try creating a phpinfo.php page:
Code
<?php phpinfo(); ?>

And then accessing it as:
phpinfo.php/this/is/a/test

Then looking for "this/is/a/test" in the result and seeing if it shows at all...

I thought we looked for ORIG_PATH_INFO as well, but it looks like not. But it's a quick change. Line 1310 of libs/ubbthreads.inc.php is where it needs to be changed:

PHP Code

$PATH_INFO = array_get($_SERVER, 'PATH_INFO', '');

Change to:

PHP Code

$PATH_INFO = array_get($_SERVER, 'ORIG_PATH_INFO', '');

Really? I could have sworn you updated the code for that way way way back when...

I was positive as well. However, I looked through the code and didn't find it. I think what happened is was the function was redone by Ian and he just forgot to add the check for ORIG_PATH_INFO back in.

Thanx!

It does make sense, he did a lot of updates for 7.3 so a small overlook would explain it...

No, it doesn't actually use shortURLs at this point; just kind of shoves links down googles throats lol...

I'm going to likely be looking at the various shorturl options for a new version in the future...

What file is editted to turn on and off manually the enable spider friendly urls?

What do you have to alter within that file to do this?

Ruben, rather than the setting within the Control Panel, can I get the following information?

What file is editted to turn on and off manually the enable spider friendly urls?

What do you have to alter within that file to do this?

Thanks.

The file itself is the includes/config.inc.php. You're looking for SEARCH_FRIENDLY_URLS

When it's set to 1, it's turned on. When it's set to 0 it's off.

Have not looked at what line or name it has in the file but it should be stored in config.inc.php
