UBB.threads PHP Forum Software Community Forums Resources and Customizing How Do I? Having trouble with Categories and Forums

I've created a new Category, but its not showing up in my Forum. It appears on my Cagtegory Setting page, but not on the main forum

Im trying to create a new Forum and want to choose the new category, but the new category isn't in the list to choose from. But if I put the forum into no category, and enable it, it doesn't show up on Forum Settings page, nor on my forums. After "creating" the forum, it takes me to the Forum permissions page, but the new forum is not listed in the drop down box (only my existing forums and the "new forum template" is in the drop down box)



What am I doing wrong?

It could be a problem with the file permissions for the folders or files.
You can goto Control Panel » Permission Checks and see if anything failed
And or manually check the file permissions per the install manual.

Try clearing the cache as well.

Also it would be nice to know what version the board is and the url

Cache is cleared several times. Still the forum doesn't appear when it goes to the forum settings page.

any idea on why the category isn't showing up on the main forum page?


Unfortunately, I can't share the URL (its on an intranet server - not accessible by the public). Would screen shots be better?

It has been a long time since I started from scratch. But first is if you have just started to use category. A forum must be assigned to a category to make the category appear. Then the chain reaction starts that you will need to assign all existing forums to categories.

Gizmos statement is a little global. Not only should you try clearing cache in the control panel but the browser as well. Both have been culprits for problem items such as yours.

So back to my input have you checked all file/folder permissions.

Also check your error logs. You may have something else going on.

No I've used categories in the past; currently have 5 categories and 39 forums spread over those categories, so I know how it works ; I've used UBB threads since it was a CGI based forum software.

I've cleared the cache via the forum as well as my browser's cache; logged in via IE, FireFox, Chrome and Opera.

Now, even more weird is that the "forum" i created shows up on the main page, but doesn't appear on the Forum Settings page at all. And what it says on the Forum page is that its a "private" thread. I can't even access it (says permission is denied) yet I am the administrator.

Well first is classic was perl based threads is not. Different animal.
The strange part is the forum is visible but not accessible from the control panel.
You may have a corrupted table due to connection issues or file permissions have changed somehow.
If you know the forum id#. You could start with mysql.
open the Forum_Permissions table and check the new forum and see if the permissions are correct. "Private thread" means you are not allowed which is part of the permissions settings.
For admins groupid would be 1.
It could end up being a lot of database diving.
So I know you are behind a intranet but a support ticket would probably be the best course of action so Rick can take a look.

I actually had issues with creating new categories/forums in 7.3 (I think it was 7.3); I haven't had issues with newer builds however.

And as Ruben points out, UBB.Threads 7 is a completely different forum software than UBB.Classic (or even UBB.Threads 6).

Yes I know. Like I said I've been using UBB since it was a cgi forum software. so I've upgraded the software since and done upgrades since it was a CGI software. Been running UBB as a php based board for the last 3 years.


For the support ticket, Im unable to provide FTP information at all (its a company policy), will this be a problem?

Well, Rick would likely need FTP access in order to check for permission issues or provide a fix... He's the creator of the script and the only person who works on trouble tickets, so I doubt there's much of a security concern.

Unfortunately I cannot give out the FTP information since its company policy.

If Rick can access the control panel at the very least he can run some test query's on mysql.

If you can't allow Rick to have access to the control panel. You could do it sneaker net style.
I am sure Rick has crossed this border before.

I went ahead and upgraded to 7.5.3 from 7.3 - it fixed the forum creation and the Category creation, but how do I get a newly created forum to show up on the main forum page, when there are no posts to the forum yet?

You should check the forum permissions to make sure all groups can *see* the forum; it should just *be there* after creation (and group addition)

Now Im getting this message:

FATAL ERROR: Unable to find the english or english language directories. Please notify the administrator.

Languages folder is there and has a CHMOD of 774 so is the English folder within
