what was it? or what will it be?
I can't afford to convert my DVD collection to BR all at once, so I had to figure out what my choice was going to be for my first one...
I ended up going with the Blade Runner 5 disc set and Serenity.

You know, I just upgraded my VHS collection to DVD lol... I'm holding off on BD now for the time being... I'm still using a SD television so I won't really see anything that I can't already see on a DVD lol...
The only HD display I own is my computer monitor (which coincidentally the only BluRay Reader I have is in my computer). My roommate has a 62" LCOS HDTV but it's running everything SD as well (no HD connections period).

my theory was, get the player first and stop buying standard DVDs.
this way I can still watch my old stuff, and anything new I get will be BR, and I can still manage to watch it on my regular TV in 480p.
of course, you failed to answer the question... which is, what would be the first BR movie you would buy?

Well, the funny thing is, the price of DVD's and BD's are what keep me from actually buying them... The price of DVD's now is still the price of what they where when they first came out... And buying a BD is still pricy lol... What would I buy? Probably Stargate, though I don't like the new adjustments in the "Final Directors Cut" version that just came out. And I think if you had IM we'd have probably had this conversation already

actually, the price of BD has come way down, not much more than the same DVD, and some stuff is cheaper.
Stargate was one of my choices. what are the changes in the new release?

I cannot wait to get my hands on Blu Ray for Avatar. Probably second best to Lord of the Rings trilogy.

My Sony BDP-S300 came bundled with 4 Blu-Ray discs but the first one that I actually bought was Casino Royal for my wife who is a big Daniel Craig fan.
I still use the same player on my home cinema set-up but it looks huge now compared with the latest models.

Just got back from Best Buy with a brand spankin new Blu Ray player for the motor home. Figured since I have a 1080p TV, might as well have Blu Ray to go with it.

my dad has had a blu-ray player for a year, he has NEVER watched a blu-ray disk, even though he has it connected to a 44" samsung 1080p LCD. my mom and I both got him blu-ray movies for christmas, we decide the first one to watch will be "UP". his player won't play it.. lol..
luckily a firmware update later, it was good to go, and proceeded to play every blu-ray disk I had on hand to test it with.
my mom asked how often they should plug it into the net to update it, I told her the next time you can't play a movie!
