Hiya, just installed the newest version of Threads and upgraded from classic. It went very smooth or so I thought. It seems to have imported everything very nicely. My problem is with my admin menu. This is all that's there:
User Management Show / Edit Users Ban a User / Host Unban User / IP
Forum Management Edit a forum
Post Management Approve posts Expire threads Close threads Open threads Keep threads Unkeep threads
Information User stats Message stats Post stats Forum info
Those are all links of course and all work. But where is the rest?? Gotta surely be something simple here. Anyone help please??? I can't change colors or forums or anything at this point. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />
I've looked at my menu.php file and all the links are there but not showing up from admin menu. Maybe I somehow don't have some kind of access privileges? Anyone??
Thanks,
Storm

It sounds like you are a Moderator only as this is the menu that the moderators get. Are you using the very first account that was setup or a different one? Your first account created is your main admin account which will get the full menu.

That was my thought too, that maybe it was a permission thing but couldn't figure out why. I am using the first account created. The conversion program said to just use the old admin that you used on UBBClassic. Maybe during the import it did something to me and made me just a moderator? Is there a way to change my permission by editing a file? I've tried to find the file but I was pretty sleepy last night so maybe I can find it today and how to give me higher access.
The board does say that I am administrator in my profile but going to the user list it lists me as a moderator so something is wrong there. Now, how to fix the problem without a reinstall? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
Ok, it sounds like your U_Status field isn't set properly. You can correct this via the mysql command prompt, or through a script like phpmyadmin. Basically you need to run the following query:
UPDATE w3t_Users SET U_Status='Administrator' , U_Groups = '-1-2-3-' WHERE U_Username = 'yourusername'

Sorry for seeming moronic here man but.... Should I include that entire command just like this?
UPDATE w3t_Users SET U_Status='Administrator' , U_Groups = '-1-2-3-' WHERE U_Username = 'Storm'
Storm is the username.
Thanks again and sorry..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Yep, just like that. No need to be sorry, I realize that direct SQL commands can be a bit daunting <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Well, tried that and no luck... Here's what it says when I look at my profile:
Board users see you as: Storm (Storm), Administrator, with 1358 posts.
So, I guess it thinks I'm an administrator but won't let me play... *sigh* <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> Any other suggestions??
I reinstalled and tried logging in with a different name for the first time. No luck doing that either..... Ran the command you mention here and this is what I get.....
Output from SQL command SELECT U_Number,U_Groups,U_Status FROM w3t_Users WHERE U_Username='PoeticStorm' ..
U_Number U_Groups U_Status 2 -3-1- Administrator
So apparently it thinks I am an Admin. but now... I have this new error.....
"We cannot proceed.
Username/Password not found.
Please use your back button to return to the previous page."
As if it can't find the password file or something? Any ideas?? It still will let me log in as storm but without admin access just like before. Geez, I'm startin' to wonder if I'm going to get this thing running. Is the password problem a database table problem?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />
Thanks again,
Storm

Somehow it must still think you are only a moderator, but not too sure why.

For the ""We cannot proceed. Username/Password not found. " error...that *could* be a cookie issue. It usually is... unless your database has deeper problems.
Try logging out, then manually delete the cookies from your site. Then log back in as that Admin user and see if that error goes away.
In
this post scroll down if you need detailed system specific instructions for deleting your cookies.
Thanks again for trying but I deleted every cookie on my system and no luck their either. Didn't really figure that was it since it allowed other users to sign up. I tried installing a fresh version and signing up with a brand new name and not importing my old Classic. Still, same thing with the username/password not found. It does let people sign up and login. It's just the first account (administrator) that won't work. It almost doesn't make sense to be a database problem.
Anyone?????? This is beyond me I guess and some sort of glitch. If I log in with the admin account and check to see who's online it will list me as an administrator but I only have moderator permissions.
C'mon somebody has to have an answer.... Schmakkin' my puter here..... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="images/icons/mad.gif" />
Tried that with no luck on a machine with no firewall or cable connection. The machine had never visited my site either. It's not a cookie related problem at all. I sent a message to tech support to try and figure this out.
Everyone else can log in after signing up. It's only that first signup that should be the default admin.... Some sort of glitch or something??
