It's giving me the most problems. yeah. I develop in firefox and then go through each browser and adjust as necessary, internet explorer getting it's own conditional style settings where necessary.

IE8, Safari, Opera, Google Chrome all pretty much just work.

IE7 requires a bit of special tweaking

IE6 requires major tweaking.

I agree it must go!! I am ready to tell my users to upgrade or they may not get the full features, lol. Wish it could be that easy, lol. Isnt support supposed to die around July of next year for most ie6?

I remember this on a older post.Because most people I have are government employees and many still have IE6. At least several months ago. You did warn us that you may not be able to get all the features to work on all browsers.

I thought you were going to attempt to plug something in that would be a simple interface display for those that did not have compatible browsers. Like for mobile phones Etc.

I agree IE6 should go away but many people have no control over what browser they use at work. The IT department decides.

Thinking out of the box.
Maybe have a user/admin setting that will direct specific browser types to a downgraded display style. When the specific browser visits the page they are redirected to the different display.

The control panel I'm being a bit more strict on because we're trying to take advantage of everything we can to make life easier. Plus, it's a limited number of people that access the CP, so we can put a few more requirements in that area. It's going to work in IE6, but it won't look quite as good.

The front end is where we'll be more flexible with everything.

I hate IE6... I'm glad to hear we're still supporting old tech but wow.. I'm glad to hear you're giving them their own conditions so those of us with firefox can use what's supported without being held back by IE wink

i have an addon that posts a warning to anyone using IE6 that they need to upgrade, and have banners stating the site works best with firefox.
I had so many people griping over problems, they all switched to FF and are happy as clams now.

Remember my usual response to this type of statement.
Employees of companies with a IT department don't always have a choice of what browser they can use.

I am not a advocate of IE6. I am just stating what happens in the real world.
If you like I can provide you with all the counties and cities in Florida.
Then you can contact them for me and convince them to upgrade.
Because I can't.
But thank god little by little they are upgrading.

You know, I'm kind of curious why their techs aren't running current updates that are available via Microsoft update... I mean IE7 has been in there forever... Are the one of those businesses that pirate the same copy over and over then block windows update in the hosts file? lol

I have found that the smaller the city or county the less prone to update versions for servers/desktop software.
So I can only assume it is a budget issue.
Even if the software update is free it still takes a considerable human resource to implement.
The issue with my members is the desktop is locked down so they can't update anything.
In fact my wife's laptop is at the point that I bought a new printer and I can't add the printer to her laptop.
So it is sneakernet when she needs something printed.
Email to her personal account then print from our computer to the printer.
So Stupid.

Lol ouch.. That does suck! Is it a work laptop or something that it's locked down?

her laptop is provided by her company.
It is so locked down.
There is no access at all to the control panel.
Meaning not even changing the desktop colors or themes.
In fact when I called them about the printer I mentioned wifi and they did a push and locked that out. Because they were not aware that wifi was functional.

So much for her wifi connection which is now gone

When I tried to direct connect the printer windows wizard popped up but of course not being a administrator I could not install the driver
So???

Because for many Companies Windows 2000 is still a great workhorse and has long since been paid off. Windows 2000 does not support IE7

As an example, if you have 200 computers in your business running Windows 2000 and they're working well and you're making money you need a lot of incentive to buy new hardware and software - ie, it MUST provide quite evident ROI and for many it just does not.
