Recently I converted my vB site over to the latest UBB and completely solved my spam problem. With vB I was deleting spam almost hourly some days, but now, I've not had a single spammer sign up and try to post. Good decision.

I imagine this is for the same reason that there are more viruses for Windows than there are for Macintosh or Linux.

I am also considering switching from vb to ubb. It looks like ubb already has a number of the features I have been waiting for in vb's upcoming cms.
How did your users respond when you made the switch, GregK?

because there are some spamming bots created for vB. there is not much UBB users, so people do not pay they time to create those bots.
This is an extreme advantage of UBB.

I currently have a Vb forum up and I know what you mean. I have a stop spam hack installed and thus far it has stopped over 16K+! I like Vb but I find that if you don't place your site in their directory the spammers are not quite as bad.

Moderate new users, end of story. They wont take the time to sign up for forums that need personal approval. OK, there might be 4 a month.
