ok, starting sometime in the past day or 2, when you bring up any forum, and try to click on page 2 or 3 or whatever, it just keeps taking you back to page 1, even though the address line shows page=x

I have tried turning off spider friendly URLS and the HTML extension, no change.

this is on vannin.com

I tried rebuilding threads and forums, no change

it doesn't affect individual threads, only category pages, like if you try to go to page 2 of general discussion... it says it is on page 2, but only showing page 1 still.

Check the permissions on your sessions directory and make sure that it's fully writable.

I think I fixed it, some how my main ubbthreads.php file was corrupted or something, it was showing a smaller file size than my last backup, restored the older flie and it worked.

my sessions folder is 10 meg? that doesn't sound right to me...
trying to open it in FTP and it is hanging forever...
I can just delete that folder completely and make a new empty one with the same name right?

It sounds like maybe your session files aren't being cleaned up by the php garbage collector. If this is your own vps or dedicated you might need to look at your php.ini settings and make sure the garbage collection is setup properly. If you're on a hosted server, you probably want to contact them.

And yes, you can just nuke the folder and recreate it, just make sure it has full write permissions again when doing so.

he isn't quite sure how his settings affect that folder, says they use a default directory, and threads uses a custom one... ?

It will still do it's cleanup as it should if configured properly, the only time it won't if it's configured to use subdirectories for the sessions, which it isn't. Though I do think there is a bug in a couple versions of php where it doesn't clean up properly and a cronjob needs to be set.

MSNbot was hammering my site, not following robots.txt, blocked in htaccess and things look normal, though I have blocking a major search engine
