Hi,

We're thinking of converting one or more boards to UBB and I was wondering if anyone with a very busy board can speak to how well UBB performs under heavy load?

Thanks

I have found that if your web server is configured properly that UBB can handle a very high load.

Some of the problems with load is that different server companies use different default settings. Even under some of those settings UBB still performs better then most all others.

Thanks for the reply, JAISP. How many users have you had on UBB concurrently?

The google earth community looks like it usually sits at around 1000 users online. Another larger one is the simhq forums who nromally have 5-700 online at the same time.

Like JAISP said, most of it depends on the server configuration, but the software will definitely handle the load if the server is configured properly.

300 users online concurrently? That's proof enough for me, thanks!

i can vouch for the SimHQ forum, since i've been helping Doug (owner) out with tweaking it..

one thing we did there is to split off the archives into another forum and make it seamless to the users..

that way the archives (rarely visited) really never burden the day to day forum activities..

it now runs 10x faster and also searching is a breeze..

I know a friend that is running a large board with UBB and I don't see he is having any problem with it.

I work on a few that have 200-400 users online at a time (40k + members, 1.3mill+ posts). if the code is good (it is), then configuring the server correctly will make it run a pretty busy site smile

when u say configuring the server do u mean tweaking it after it's up and running or is it the initial configuration how you set up the server itself first time?

I guess it must be the way how Ubbt is installed on the server rather than tweaking the configuration set up for server once it has been installed...

I am assuming that is the case.

Well there are a couple things that really do need to be adjusted on the server itself for best performance. That would be the webserver and mysql configurations. If either or both of those configurations aren't done properly, you could have a very nice server that performs very poorly.

The most users online on my board was 1042 and what's great is that the forum was running SUPER FAST during this peak time. smile

In the long run, if the site is to run for years and years then it would probably be good to split up the posts table so that a new one is created every year.
