I have never done any type of cleaning up in my forum. Should I be deleting old posts from years ago in some way? Kind of afraid to jump into it. Afraid I might delete the wrong thing.

You really only need to delete old postings on a couple of conditions.

A) You really don't want them anymore

or

B) You have so many that it's affecting your forum speed and you've done everything you can to optimize the server.

Does UBB have some sort of archived post feature, where once a post becomes aged enough, it will fall into a linear and image-free archive that is still accessible by search engines etc. and linkable from forum menu?

nope, but it's always been a doable and desirable thing to have..

Definitely something we'll be adding. If not in the initial 8.0 release it will be coming shortly after.
