Hi regarding UBB.threads™ 7.5.4.2 I updated the /General HTML header section several times and cut same html code into the footer section too it all worked fine until i re edited it and hit reply. the message that came up and has stayed is Unable to connect to database server, please try again in a few minutes. What could have gone wrong? I can not see that editing the header or footer file would in any way cut off your database connection. those files are template files.
You did only edit the temp[later filers correct?
If you upload the stock unedited files are you still getting the same error?

If you are talking about using the control panel to edit your html includes. That would really have nothing to do with a database connection error. Try checking your mysql server it may be down.

I uploaded a new empty footer.php file and set it to RWRWRW (666)and it did not help.
I can open mysql on my hosts admin area and see the database is there but thats it. it's not my field at all. any clues what could be wrong or how can i call the database to check if there is a connection??

first thing check your config.inc.php file. The top couple of lines will have your paths and connection info. User name password etc. It will be in your forums/includes folder. Make sure they are correct

possibly your includes/config.inc.php now is either corrupt or has incorrect DB, user, password login info to your datbase.. do you have a backed up config.inc.php file? edit: ugh.. Ruben is faster on the draw today

Yep it happens sometimes. Just do what SD said. copy a backup file to your server.

You also might want to check with your host. The drive you are on may be full. If so it probably will happen again.

Okay some where I believe Gizmo uploaded a config file. You will need to edit it of course with a text editor.

Okay here is the post HERE Edit the top 7 or so lines to match your paths and db connection info. Then upload it. Then when the board is up again you will need to go through all of the settings that are incorrect.

If you have like phpmyadmin. Look at the ubb database for the database name, Username assigned to the database. For password just assign a new password to the user so you know what it is.

Also you might try digging a little bit. Maybe you have a copy of your config file somewhere before you upgraded.

Looks like you are making some progress the board shows closed now. Once you get it all running again you really should make a complete backup. DB and web files.
BTW, When I mentioned the disk may be full I was talking about the site not the mysql server. That is where the config file is stored.

Okay we posted on top of each other. Best thing really since I have no idea what you have changed since then is start in the control panel. And go one by one through your settings.
Even if they appear correct still select the submit.
You probably are okay with the user/group permissions.
It really does not take that long.
If you were a little more intimate with the software you could just scroll through the config.inc.php file with a text editor and make changes there. I don't recommend that in your case.
And did I say this before. BACKUP YOUR SITE when done.

Ruben
thanks for your help, funny i used to see easily how much disc space was used but cannot any longer. Thay changed the layout and been bought up a few times and somethings are actually much more difficult to find such things as how much used and paths and so on.
I need to work on with this ...
thanks

Well the problem with a full disk is not so much how much you are using but how much free space is on the drive. Unless you are on a dedicated server. You are sharing space on the same drive as many others. Most shared plans do not show you that , they just show what you are using.

I managed to get the board going and edited the config as good as i could in the CP area. however there has come up one issue and that is when someome replies with a "quote" the that does not work
i got this message
"For readability, you can only quote messages levels deep. Please edit your message and try again."
Any ideas what fault might be?

I found it in the CP "Maximum number of nested quotes in a post" what would be a normal amount? I put "2" to get it going.
