Version 7.5.4.2

I want to turn Custom Island #1 into Recent Topics.

I took the php code and pasted it into a .php webpage, placed outside UBB. Also changed Title to "Recent Topics". Yea it shows up.

Now I need the code to make the newest topics show up. Also just to make sure I put it in the correct place, I would like you to tell me where to paste that code.

Thank you
Val

why not just enable a post island where you can choose new topics for any or all forums ?

no need to make a custom one..

just fill out the form, save add it to the portal (left or right) and blammo 2c

OK, What I am looking for is a snap shot of the say 10 most "Recent Posts". How can I do that?

Same place Sirdude mentioned.
Control Panel » Post Island

Name
This appears as the header for the post island.

Cache Time
In Minutes. Higher cache times are better for overall forum performance.

Always Build
With this option checked, this island will always be built even if it's not used in your portal. This would allow you to use the island elsewhere on your site.

Island Type (New topics Only,Recent Posts)

Number of Topics/Posts to display (Your example,10)

Source Forums (Pick and choose)

Then just add the island placement in:
Control Panel » Portal Layout

There is no need to use the custom Island when the post islands will do what you want.

Ruben Thank you for the details.

Sirdude, I guess I wasn't just understanding your message. I am new with some of this stuff, was an Admin for years, but we not allowed to play around too much so I just needed a little more guidance.

Thanks again to both of you it works.

Great.
Like SD said there was no need to re-invent the wheel. If all you wanted was a standard vanilla current topics island.

cool!

well one thing that this thread did was to serve as a 'how to' anyway, so it ended up being all good wink

it also shows that it is prolly better to give nice DETAILED responses like Ruben did.. i was quick/dirty in mine laugh

Well sometimes you talk over my head too.
And I am just a little bit above some of the basics here.
So I understand where people come from with this type of question.
The difference for me is now I will ask the questions that others are afraid to ask,I guess.

LOL someday when I get all the options figured out I will know what Sirdude posted.

But right now I still need a little more direction.

Thanks again.

I may be back with more newbie questions.
