Hi,
We just moved from 7.4 to 7.5.4.2.
I believe that one of the new features is first post approval to deal with spammers. What's the best way to implement this?
Thanks!
Neil

If your talking about moderated posts. Control Panel » Forum Permissions All new posts are moderated : set it to a 1 For each forum
Of course you then need to either set a moderator for that forum or enable a specific group to approve posts.

Cool -- thanks.
Any easy way to copy a new set up of permissions across many (e.g., 40) forums?

If all of the permission settings are the same then set one the way you want it.And save it Then as you open the permissions for the next forum at the top is a copy permissions from box. Select the first forum and save.
Repeat for each forum. There also is a new forum template from the list for editing and copying. But I would suggest that you make sure you want to change that one but it would be helpful to use for the future changes so you can see what the default was is case you need to make special permissions in some of the forums after you copy them.

You can also use the "Mass Permission Copy" tab. Once you have one forum setup the way you want, you can click on that tab and copy the permissions to other forums that you want to have the same set of permissions.

Just a note on this. If you're looking to just have a new user's posts moderated and not everyone, then you'll want to create a new group and then have new users added to that group instead of the default users group. Then you can turn on moderation for the new group. You could then set it so they join the regular users group after X many posts.

Good catch Rick. It has been so long since starting fresh I completely forgot about it. That would be: Control Panel » Forum Permissions "Mass Copy" tab. Still will need one saved to copy from but much easier.

Rick,
I would love for their to be a better way to deal with this (spammers).
In short, what I would like is that new users can post anywhere, but their first xxx posts need to be approved. In other words, to not have to deal with a special place to post, changing user types, etc...
This alone would deal with most of the spam problem we see. I would imagine others as well.
Thanks!
Neil

1. just have new users who sign up go to the 'users' group (all posts are moderated) 2. create just ONE new group: 'seasoned users' and put xxx as the number of posts that they automatically get assigned to
then it's automatic.. existing users with xxx will be immediately added to that group.. no changes to them needed..
so it is really VERY simple..

Yeah, SirDude's method is much easier than what I suggested. I tend to over complicate things sometimes
