ok.. so I have never messed with cron jobs or anything, and am messing around with this trying to learn a little
I'm running windows 7 on this machine and want to know what would be the best program to "shell" (?) into my server?
I tried puTTY tonight, pretty basic.
also, besides doing pretty much the same things I can do via my FTP client, what else can I do? what's the purpose?

putty is fine.. the shell is by definition just a command line interface to your server.. sooo any client won't pretty it up much more than it is.. i personally use VanDyke Software - SecureCRT (not free), since it offers all that i need to support multiple Shell logins to many sites..

I prefer SSH Secure Shell to Putty personally, but it's slightly a pain to find their old free version

I use Putty myself. It does what I want it to. I didn't even know they had a paid version? I have the free one.

No, the SSH Secure Shell is not free anymore... well, it was free and their "tecra" client isn't free; putty is free, but I just don't like it
