Is it possible to export a couple of forums and start a new site?

There is a section of my current site that has the potential to be the basis for a standalone site. I was thinking that it would be nice to be able just move all of the existing threads over from those forums. Then I guess I'd have to deal with the membership - would all of the current members also move over? Maybe I could then delete all of the members who had never posted in those forums. I have about 18,000 members, so that could be an issue.

I guess I'm trying to avoid starting from scratch when I have about seven years of history.

I have a dedicated server and it should be able to handle another forum. I realize that I'd have to buy another UBB.threads license, but I know where I can get one.

You can always use your database backup with everything and set up new forum. Than just delete the forums and stuff you dont want on the new.

Just gotta be sure both versions of ubb are the same.

gliderdad's advice is good..

i've done that before and it works quite well..

you just restore the backup into a different mysql DB.. change the config.inc.php for the new URL / path / DB info and *bam* instant duplicate site..

then you cull out what you don't want and you are good to go..
