Anyone have any tips I might be able to have this user try?

I'm running Threads 7.5.4.2

Here is what he is reporting:

Quote
HI, I got a new PC at work and it has windows 7 and IE8. I am having trouble staying logged in. I went to FAQ's and saw that I need to allow cookies (which I did), but still having issues. I log in, then when I click on any other thread, it tells me I am no longer logged in. Any suggestions? thanks

You may need to add the cookie exception as always allow for the web site.

Example: yourdomain.com

I'm not exactly sure where to do this as I do not use IE but I think it is in the internet options settings.

I don't use win7 but on IE8 there are several settings to try depending on what is set now.

In internet options under tools.

You have a few tabs to select.
one is security
Select the trusted sites option.
Then select the sites button
Deselect the Requires server verification checkbox
Add your sties full url. http://www.msn.com
If that is still a problem you can change the security settings for trusted sites on the same page.

Next or other option to try is the privacy option tab.
This is where the cookies are monitored.
you have two choices to check
Sites and advanced.
Advanced will allow you to overide all cookie/ session settings by allowing first party third party cookies and session cookies.
allow all three options
So you may want to try this method as a test only to see if that resolves the problem.
If it does disable it. I would not think they would want to allow any site. and go to the sites button add the url to the site and select allow.
Other than that firefox.
There are to many security items to deal with on win7 then add in ie8.

I hope that was clear as mud

Just as another option, have the member download Firefox, Chrome or Opera. I use to be a consistent user of IE, but the other browsers do a much nicer job.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Ruben, your first tip regarding the security setting appears to have helped my user, thanks.

Wisc.Tiger, totally agree about Firefox. I use it for 99% of my own browsing and recommend it whenever I can, especially when users run into problems.

Well I am glad my post helped but it is a real dilemma.
Most people using IE only are newbies and just accept the defaults.
So I am sure you went through several hoops to get them working.
So you never really know what the heck is going on. Let alone what settings they have. From the many many settings.
Firefox just plays nice with this software.
I constantly get emails about IE and how it is just my site that has a problem.
But we do what we have to.
