I apologize since I posted a similar question, but that was centered more around content builder. Everyone seems to be fixed except for me, which is slightly ironic as I am a global mod.
The company that sponsors the board built a new website, and this was accompanied by a demise of the board. It seems to be repaired mostly with the exception of the loss of Avatars.
Here is what is happening to me. If am I logged out, I can view the board just as it should be including seeing me, but without my Avatar. The problem is, since I am logged out, I have no window at the bottom to post in. This is what one would expect on a board where you are logged out.
So, I log in. Normally, this would allow me to read posts and reply, etc. But, when I log in, I can no longer see posts. I can click on a forum and see all the threads, but when I click on a thread, it takes me to a window to post in. I am posting blindly unless I have just received an email notification. I can then read the last post in that thread.
Same thing if I click on a recent post on the left column. Logged out, I can view them, logged in, I can't.
The person who built the web and tech support is trying to fix my account, but so far nothing. When I sent my username and password to tech support, they logged in and had the same issue.
The only idea I have is there is one admin, one global mod, and two moderators. Everyone else is a user. Maybe the permissions for the global mod has been changed. But, I have checked that. Sorry for the long post. I just want to give you and idea of what is happening. Thanks. Bert

That's a great idea. I know this will sound selfish, but I have, by far, the largest number of posts. I would hate to see those go.

Sorry for my ignorance. If I were to be a new user, how would I keep my 5,000 posts?
You have to remember, I am relying on the guy who broke it in the first place.

Anyone else complaining of a similar issue? If a new account is needed then the site admin could merge your old account with the new one to keep all of your posts, however it should be something the admin can resolve.

Permission settings are set for individual levels. Any level could have the permissions set incorrectly. Make sure that the admin has gone to "Group Management" and clicked on "Forum Permissions" for "GlobalModerators" and checked to see that "Can read topics" is set to 1 for all forums.

I looked there. All 1's. Forum settings show all of the forums. However, Category settings only show Discussions 0 and General discussion 1. It doesn't show any of the other four forums. If that were an issue, then everyone would be having issues.
This has to be something simple. Wonder what would happen if I made myself a user. Of course, then I couldn't get back into the CP, to try to troubleshoot on my own.
Can I be both?

Umm have you tried doing a forum rebuild since this seems to have happened after the admin did something to the board?

On my CP, I think it says Content Builder. Would that be the same thing?
Thanks everyone for the help.

Yes thats it ,there are a couple of options. you might try all of them. Don't forget it will close your board while running. The time depends on how big your forum is.

Thanks Ruben,
As I asked in my other thread, how safe is it to run Content Rebuilder? I would hate to bring down the entire board.
I did it once a long time ago when I was messing around in the CP for the first time. It didn't take that long, but the whole time I was nervous as hell.
There are other little problems I have noticed. Like under forum settings, there are five forums listed, and there should be a sixth. The sixth forum exists when you look on the board.
The category sessions just has Discussions as 0 (which is the heading above the forums and General Discussions as 1 (which is only one of the six forums.

So, now is a good time to run Content Builder. I know I sound scared. Just want to be sure it's safe. Sorry for the bother.

It wouldn't hurt to create a database backup just so you have one at its current state before you rebuild. This is just for your own piece of mind in the off chance something goes screwy.

Thanks gliderdad,
This is why I don't feel extremely comfortable doing it as I believe only the admin in this case can back up the board.
I find it a little silly, they haven't been able to find a solution. One of the people helping has been monitoring this board and this thread to try to find a way. Not saying anything bad about him. (in case he is reading this)

OK, again. The admin ran content rebuild and it didn't fix things. I am not sure if the reason this only happened to me is due to my having so many posts. The admin has offered to cover all my expenses if I can fix it or find out how to. I think SirDude has the only viable option which is to open a new account. Just wondering if anyone would know the best way to then merge my other account. I would think that at some point users would click on my old posts. But then after someone posts after, I don't think that would be a big option. I guess someone's going over there as a guest won't help much if they can't see the CP.

why don't you get a pro to look @ the problem 1st hand as an admin 1st ? you may not have to do something that drastic. we're going on (or i am) what you describe and what the admin says he does and i wholly believe it currently ain't working, but there might be a very simple solution to a trained eye..

Thanks Sirdude,
Where would I find this trained eye?
Bert
Remember, he said he had no issues paying for whatever needed to be done. I apologize in advance if talking about money on this board is not allowed. Please edit accordingly.

OK. Let me email Jon, the owner of the board or call him in the AM, and I will get back to you then. Thanks.

Now fixed It was templates/compile permission setting and he was a 'rare user' in that he liked to have his threads displayed with "user info on TOP" that template never was able to be recompiled (smarty) and was always BLANK..
