Our forum is setup to allow linking to external sites for avatars. Some of the linked images are big and slow to load. Since Rick announced the Cranno.com site, I'd like to convert some of the offending avatars to 80x80 pixels. The problem is, when I go into the control panel to edit a user, the avatar options are only to select a URL to an avatar, or select a stock avatar. There is no ability to upload an avatar unless I "become the member" and edit the profile as that member.

Is there a setting that will enable uploading of avatars when I am editing a profile, without going through the sequence described above?

Currently, there isn't a setting for that and it's an oversight that it's not there. We do have this in place already for v8 though (not that it does you any good for now). So, the only option is to become the users individually.

One thing to consider for V8 along with that feature is to allow the administrator to set an "avatar upload filter" using Cranno as the engine to automatically resize both uploaded and URL referenced links as stored avatars resized to the desired pixel size.

With version 8, we've got the functionality built in for resizing. So, basically you set the dimensions in the control panel, and when a user sets their avatar, either a remote or uploads one, it will resize the avatar properly to what you've set in the CP.
