Hello,

I'm running a forum with about 1000 users. I've written it myself in PHP, but because adding new features takes a lot of time, I would like to use standard forum software like UBB.

2 questions come to my mind before buying.
1. All the data is now in a mysql database. This data has to be converted to the database of UBB. Is there a database diagram available ? Or some sort of documentation ?

2. UBB 8 is gonna be a big change. Will it be a lot of work to go from 7.5 to 8, or is it simply running a script.
Is it better to wait for me considering the situation, till UBB 8 is ready?
Is there already a date estimated for the 8.0 release ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Martijn,

I had the same problem when I came to UBB a couple of months ago.

1. The database-structure is not so difficult/complex at all and it's easy to write a simple/basic convertion script. If you want to use my script (I wrote a couple of script for the e107 forum system), just send me a PM.

2. As far as I know the update-process of UBB is well-documented and it's just uploading the files and run the upgrade script. The UBB 8 release is planned for the end of this year/begin of next year.

In answer to Q2..
Rick always includes an upgrade script.

They get smoother all the time.

In fact, I have never had a problem with my upgrades since I moved from UBB Classic.

BTW - there is no release date yet.

The upgrade script will make going from within UBB7 to UBB8 a no brainier... The Alpha/Beta process usually captures a good set of bugs to make it easier on users.
