I keep getting emails from members who accidentally left one star instead of 5 stars. Or a member who cant figure out why why his 5 star rating just dropped to 2 stars.

If there was a mistake in the stars given can it be changed?

or can I eliminate the star rating altogether?

This vanity feature has always been a bone of contention
The only way to change it currently, is with some database diving.
I think in v8 there was a post to change how it works.

I personally think that the voting member should have the ability to change their rating on a member.
Humans always change their mind.

Just fyi,
I used to have five stars here as well as several other active members.
Then poof, down to three.
It would be nice to have a feedback item to show what I did wrong to tick someone off.
But over time the star rating does not mean much to me anymore.

I help people when I can.

I have to agree. The default rating (which may be accidentally clicked on by novice [or indeed any] users) is 1 star.

It's all too easy to do in error.

For this reason, I also have switched off this facility on my forums.

---------------------

If you want to switch it off...

Admin CP -> Feature Settings || General

(about 6 down)

Enable Member Ratings?

I turned off the members star rating years ago after one particularly petty cretin went about creating multiple accounts so that he could give 1 star to just about all the most valuable regulars.

Of course, I deleted all the phony accounts and banned the clown's IP, but after that I figured it was just easier overall to turn the feature off and leave it off.

Now here's an idea...

Have the rating system weigh the rating according to the rating of the member doing the rating. smirk

Clear as mud?

But it would be way too much trouble to make such a feature work properly. Perhaps we could get the "class balance" gurus at Blizzard to work on it. wink

Not really worth it though.
