I guess this is not going to happen for a while in stock versions.
I would like to have different sets of islands appear in each forum.
I have casually played with this.
I know that I can turn off the islands and use external code in the custom header footer per forum.
But the layout is just not quite the same.
Meaning the navigation bar overlaps the islands on the left and right by default and not when using the custom header/footer. So when I use the custom insert it wraps outside the navigation bread crumb bar.

Can someone point me to how/where to do that?
I just can't seem to figure out if it is a include file, template file or css setting that allows the nav bar to overlap the default islands.

Okay, First run I think this works.

All I did was write this in the header of custom inserts for one forum:
PHP Code

<?php
$config['LEFT_COLUMN_BOXES']= array("portal_box_2","portal_box_1","portal_box_4")
?>

The syntax is probably not very clean.
But it allows me to use any island I want in a forum while still maintaining the default portal islands.
At least on the untouched column.
And the user can still turn off the column if they wish.

The tough part will be keeping track of it.

Can anybody think of a "Danger Will Robinson" with doing it this way.

Okay next stumble.
Where the heck is the forum custom insert settings stored?
I don't see them in the config file nor can I find them in the tables.

Thank You.

Well I am glad I asked about where it was stored.
For backups,I always assumed that folder was pretty much static.
Hence why it never dawned on me to look there.
