I'm sure there are going to be plenty of questions on the new ownership and I'll let them answer those. Tough decision for sure, but my main thing was finding someone who would continue and finish up what we got started here.

Believe me or not, but yes, there was truth behind it. Over the past 2 weeks things have happened pretty fast with the new job offer, flying out to consider it, relocation, putting house up for sale and then a very big decision that I had to make regarding UBB.

None of this was deemed worthy of a response on the "State of" thread then...
All very disappointing.

Rick you did a great job all things considered especially since January. Some people will never be happy unless they get their daily fix of news etc. I am building a game at the moment and for two years I get the same thing whether there is something to report or not. Good luck with the new job.

I am not sure about the new ownership and where that will leave all of us that have been faithful to ubb for a long time. Change is always hard to swallow and then there are the questions about your hosting service, payment types, if there is going to be increased cost etc. These are all things that will have to be considered by me (at least) before I can continue a relationship with UBB in the future. Hopefully the new ownership will come forward soon to introduce themselves and set the new standard they want as their business model. I guess from there I can make a reasonable decision to stay with UBB or move elsewhere.

Dunny

Fair Winds and Following Seas Rick it has been a great job by you and your family to keep things going as good as you have given the circumstances.

Do you constantly give these people time frames in which to expect things and then miss them badly, only to give another one to miss once again?

Why not hold back being mad about it until you've heard who the new owner is, and what will become of UBB.threads?

Rick, good luck in your future endeavors, I have always enjoyed working with you. Don't be a stranger.

What's wrong with Washington? I'm just outside of it! lol... IMHO, the Pacific NW can't be matched anywhere...

Wow! Somehow I thought this was Rick's main job. How could you ever keep up, Rick?

Rick, I sure hope the new job brings you satisfaction and rewarding paychecks.

And I must say: I have participated on so many different forums and message boards, but I sure do like the style and ease of use that UBB Threads gives. That is to your credit!

Perhaps the announcement should have waited till the new owner was ready to announce who HE is.

while I understand Rick's decision, I still find this news disconcerting and am a little apprehensive about the future.
I was about to renew my subscription, now I may wait.

Rick's involvement personal touch in customer service were a huge factor to my use and support of this product.

Good Luck Rick.

Rick...good luck with this new venture....we also are a "mom and pop" and OH MY GOSH...how did you ever get the courage to let go after so many years of faithful service here!??!!

That takes a lot of guts!

We've had UBB for as long as UBB Classic existed. It is the most stable program we have used over the years...and we use a lot of programs on our now busy site....that actually got us out of our day jobs!!! THANK YOU!... and you have always been available for support.

GOOD, GOOD LUCK! Our best to your family!

Hello Everyone,

We've been following UBB software for over 10 years and are very excited about the opportunity to work with this community and continue on where Rick has left off. While the ownership has changed, the direction hasn't and Rick has agreed to continue as a consultant to assist us with the learning curve.

We're going to be working on things behind the scenes and around the net to increase awareness, traffic, and ultimately revenue to assist with further developing UBB.

Thanks for your understanding and support!

Brooks

That's what I was kind of hoping as well. grin

Let's put it this way, I have no plans any time soon to change forums for my site. Let's see how this all goes.

Brooks, can you give us a little info. on your background and desires with UBB? It might put everyone at ease. Thanks.

Brooks, Congratulations with UBB.

I have a couple of questions for you (and Rick maybe):

1. Who is going to do the development of future releases of UBB? Rick, Brooke or a complete new team? I can imagine that Rick finishes UBB8, but after that, what are your plans?

2. I have a lifetime license now. Will this still be valid in the future?

3. When does UBB8 go into bèta. Does this change of ownership mean any more delay or should we expect UBB8 soon?

I hope you can answer this questions, you'll take some questions away and I can at least sleep well tonight tongue laugh

After almost 15 years of doing it, it somewhat became second nature. But, also realizing my kids are getting older and I've had little time for them, or my wife for that matter, kinda made me realize I had to make some type of change. smile

Ok, it was clear to me that the 'glitches' in fact had a totally different reason.

I'm quit sure I will be migrating to IB.Board of vBulletin now.

As someone new is going to dig into someone else code, a 6 month delay for version 8 is the least we have to count with.

What a huge disappointment!
