Ruben and I have been working on a Wiki for some time now for the UBB; we haven't really stated anything publicly to allow us to get things in order, move over some content, organize everything, etc.

Consider this the official announcement about UBB.Wiki. You can also see us in the "Site Links" bar here.

If you're interested in assisting us on this project please feel free to send me a PM.

I am a Web Development Contractor, I do not work for UBBCentral. I have provided free User to User Support since the beginning of these support forums.

Yes, indeed, it is a good start. Let me ask a Newbie question here I didn't see discussed yet on the Wiki. I'll add any reply to your Wiki if you'd rather not do it yourself.

On other web sites one can submit questions by email and get any responses back by email, without the need to go to the web site. At my company's web site you can get the responses back by email automatically, but there is no way to reply or start a thread by email. Is this an inherent property of the UBB system, or did my company choose not to implement an email input option that is provided for the system?

There is some appeal to an all-email interchange for company sites with over-aggressive firewalls.

By the way, if I can submit a question to this board by email please point me to where that is documented. I'd like to try it out. MikeG

As of version 7.5.6 there has never been a feature to integrate postings by email to the forum.
It has been requested but...

What currently can be done is set your watched items for a user, forum or topic and elect to be notified by email of any activity of same.

I know there are security- and marketing-related issues on why you don't want to offer posts input by email, but you are locking yourself out of a rich market. I come from an ancient software company that supports a lot of installations with National Security and Protecting Confidential Data requirements. When I tell one of my friends that I answered their last question on the website they say something like "Thanks a lot. You know my firewall won't let me go there." One of my UK friends said "Oh, you should have told me that it is a cafeteria program." That was puzzling, so I asked him what the heck that meant. He said he worked in a place so secret he'd have to get me killed if he told me the name. He said all their computers, networks, even cell phones were locked into secure systems, and there was no way for them to contact the outside world, or for the outside world to reach them, except at home on their personal systems. Things got so strained because guys couldn't ask their wives if they should pick up a loaf of bread on the way home that a separate phone line was installed into the cafeteria, with its own computer, with no way possible to talk to any in-house machine. There was always a line of very expensive people waiting go out through this single portal to the outside world.

You don't have to make email input a feature that everyone has to use, but if you made it an option you'd get more customers. I suggest you poll your members on how much interest there really is in such a feature.

Well, First I am a user just like you. So this is not my software.
Personally I have some groups that use email lists and I would love to be able to integrate the emails to ubb. Just so to eliminate redundant posting. Email to UBB. and vice versa

My response was that the feature does not exist, yet.
Hopefully someday it will.

FYI, if you search this site till the cows come home you will see besides myself there are very few people that have asked for this feature.
I wish there were more so that this could be pushed up in the priority list.

I would suggest that ubb supports polls, too, but that would be pushing against limits. Given a choice between input by email and polls, my vote is the former.

Polls do exist in the current version.
It is a permission setting on who can create one.
But again it is done by a visitor to the site.
I don't know how a poll could be created via email though.
Possibly voting could be done I guess.

Thanks for the input on polls. Can you show me a poll on this site to look at? I understand that I'm not allowed to start a new one myself. Is someone with the proper account type interested in starting one on the usefulness of email input?

I don't think submitting poll input by email is a reasonable request. I'd settle for getting both capabilities, separately.

You can start a poll in the test forum here at:
https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/forums/5/1/Test%20Forum.
There also are a couple of polls here, But I will need to find one.
Okay here is a old one that may still be active.
