Hi all,

Silly issue but I can't get any of the images I added to the forum to delete.

I can add them with no issue, but deleting is non existent.

I click the box next to the image to have it deleted, click on the updated/remove images button and I get the message forum images have been updated but they are still there.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

What version are you running? Have you checked to be sure permissions are set correctly? I tested it locally with latest version on mine and it removed them fine

gliderdad thanks for the reply.

Running version 7.5.5

I wouldn't have any idea if the permissions are set correctly as I didn't set up the board. If it's easy to check for a non tech person like me let me know and I'll try to give it a whirl.

Thanks again.

If you have access to the CP (control Panel) click on that. At the bottom right you will see permission checks... click on that. It will show green for all the permissions that are correct and red for ones that aren't.... you can find the exact file by clicking on the link that is red and a drop down of exactly what file is failing the check. (if permissions is the issue that is).

Humm,
There is such a thing as group owner permissions. Not talking UBB but for example ftp.
If your host changed them them you are no longer the owner of the file no matter what permissions the file is set to.
I have seen that happen on a windows server but not linux.
When you say you can't delete one, but can upload.
Do you mean all existing and new files will not delete.
FTP to the account and see if you can manualy delete one.
If you can see if the group setting is different from one you can't.

Good call Ruben I totally didn't think of that as a possible "false" permissions showing..that actually had happened to me before where I thought they were correct but in actuality they weren't.

I am just guessing here. Since we probably don't have all the facts.

Thanks for the replies.

I went and tried to delete the image I added recently and it indeed deleted.

I can't delete any of the old images.

Where would I look in FTP to see if I can delete the files? I don't want to go in randomly and start deleting.

Thanks

As an update I went into the control panel and right clicked on an image that won't delete. From there, I viewed image info and followed the path in the FTP to forum images, then the default folder. None of the images are in the list/folder.

I am assuming that is the problem. Any idea on what the fix is?

I readded one of the images I can't delete and then had 2 of the same images however only 1 would delete so that didn't solve the problem.

Suggestions?

Sounds to me you may need some database diving.
It appears that something must have corrupted some files at some point in time in the past.
Or at least a database table such as forums.

Bottom line is we don't know the specifics.
If the image displays on the board then the file exists somewhere.
It would be helpful for a example such as url to board with a indication to what image you are trying to delete.
If it is just in the control panel then someone would probably need access to the control panel, database and ftp access.

The images I am unable to delete aren't currently in use on the forum.

I did a test and went into an active forum and changed the image to one I can't delete. It did show on the board. So you're right they are somewhere, where is unknown.

The board is http://www.freaksforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forum_summary

The images you see on the board are what I am talking about. However the images I can't delete are football logos.

For example the ones with the arrows are what I am looking to delete and there are others like them.

Not sure if any of this helps but hopefully so.

For example the second one. Rams.
I don't see them on your site.
But currently you are using the gold style.
So I would suspect you have it in other styles that are turned off to users.
So I can't help you much on this.

What is the url to the second one. That has the ram image.
If you can't figure it out then enable it for a forum and provide the url to the forum to see it.

I recently changed the style from Koniro to Black & Gold about 2 weeks ago.

The url to the ram image is: http://www.freaksforum.com/forum/images/forumimages/default/.31.gif

Huh?
Is that due to the dot as a prefix file name.

I'd be glad to delete them in the FTP but they aren't showing in the folder based on the path listed.

I know that sounds hard to believe but they aren't listed. I've looked several times and not sure what steps to take now.

Your client should have an option to show "hidden" files; a hidden file in *nix is any file that has a "." at the beginning.

Maybe they are hidden files based on that dot before the extension?

Can you let us know what it was that was the culprit... I know I have had a similar issue in the past and can't remember exactly what I had to do to fix it.

files with . starting off the name cause some FTP clients to not see them

.htaccess is an example

i logged in with my FTP client that shows 'hidden' ( even they really aren't hidden ) and deleted them
