No New Messages. I have heard about this in previous versions and never come across it. So prior to the security patch on these forums i never had the problem of the flashing icon ![[Linked Image]](https://www.ubbcentral.com/forums/images/general/default/newpm.gif) Feel free to log in as me to see it on these forums.

The never ending saga of the flashing notice. Stan had one recently.
BTW, Only a admin can login as another member. So that leaves SD and Brooks.

Only thing I can think of since we never get any info on what really transpired to correct the issue. Is a timestamp issue between the desktop and the server. If true eventually the flashing icon will go away by itself in time.
Pun intended.

The ghost PT issue should have been fixed in 7.5 I believe, once you login it is supposed to update the PT count (not sure which bit of code does this "magic" but that's what Rick said at some point)

A few years back I had this problem. It affected my own admin account and many of my members. The icon was always there but there were no new messages. I had Rick look at it and if I recall correctly it was because I was one of those people who insisted in making myself member #1. (cuase bein #2 stinks )

I went into the mysql as recommended and found the messages for the sure number, and there found a null PM, and when I deleted that,... all were happy again.
I do not know how the problem on here got fixed, the admin never told me or responded to me that I can recall.

Im accessing this site on my phone. Using opera mobile. First time ive ever logged in and the flashing pm is still there.
I dont have more than 20 private messages since registering so the solution shouldnt be too hard to work out.
I can now understand users frustrations. You loose faith in trusting new messages.
Just feedback.

you cant.
I noticed my time zone was out and updated it to match correctly. Thinking that could have been part of the problem.
After logging in and out, its still there. The only thing ive not done, is delete all the private messages.
good luck.

There should be numerous threads here about the issue; it was supposed to be fixed as part of the login routine in v7.5

Sorry, but I have to bring this old thread up. I got this problem in my administrator account andf now I found why I use UBB.threads for a very long time and upgrade from the cgi version. I never use the administrator account (user ID 2) in V7.x and work with my own admin account (user ID 3). After login in the administrator after 10 years ( ) I found -176 PMs (yes negative!) 1 unread message and a flashing icon that still flashes after deleting the unread one. So I start digging in databse with phpMyadmin and found the problem. Look into theses 3 tables: ubbt_PRIVATE_MESSAGE_POSTS ubbt_PRIVATE_MESSAGE_TOPICS ubbt_PRIVATE_MESSAGE_USERS and sort it for USER_ID I found postings with ID 0 and ID 1 Theses comes from the very old Threads versions. I chance the User ID 0 and ID 1 in all three tables to ID2 and log in my administrator again. Now I see a lot of very old (from 2004) postings and delete it. The Icon still continue flashing and I check the tables again. ID 0 and ID 1 ist clear, no postings left but for ID 2 I found some entrys that dont match. Leftover pices. I delete all rows that contains ID 2 an theses three tables and the flashing is gone. This account is now free of junk and work as it should. I send test PMs and delete ist, all fine. Conclusion: If you have a flashing icon after deleteing all PMs in Threads check theses 3 tables in phpmyadmin for the USER_ID and delete all rows of this ID. Be carefull and do a backup first. This kill all private messages for this user. Your sent out messages will be killed too if they be in a PM of an other user! For me this was the only way to clean up my Master Admin account after all the updates and upgrades.

Mark, in your case someone must search for your USER_ID in this 3 tables. But first download all PMs if you like to archive them. The easy way is deleting all rows with your ID from this tables. This kill all PMs in your and reciver store. Orphaned PMs will also deleted and the flashing icon should be gone.
The tool function for deleting orphaned PMs in the control panel dosn't fix the problem.
