my boards, the lovable but cranky v7.2 over at rkmbs.com, have recently begun spitting out the following error after trying to post:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE, expecting T_STRING in /nfs/c09/h01/mnt/131728/domains/rkmbs.com/html/scripts/showflat.inc.php on line 955
the post actually does get added, you just have to deal with the error message. any ideas what i done did...?

actually, check that -- it apparently shows up whilst trying to go to any topic; not limited to adding new ones

Give me a few to rest but it looks like you may have an extra ;. Remove the one after $Number\"); and see if it works

Actually, that is stock code. Have you edited this file at all? You may be missing a curly bracket or colon somewhere around that line

it's possible I edited the file awhile back, but at least not since last august - I don't think I've touched any file in a few years. this issue just seems to have crept up in the past 24 hours

unfortunately, my sleep and lack of knowledge did not fix the issue could there have been something i did that would cause this to all of a sudden revolt? i used to hack a lot in the files back in the day, but like i said, i haven't touched anything in maybe 3-4 years, outside of moving servers - and even that was almost a year ago, back in august 2011

woo! i'm an uber hack! so, basically, i couldn't figure out what the issue was, but the entire block causing trouble here was "If it is an anonymous post, don't give a link to their profile" and since i dont allow anonymous posts, and i don't care (that much) about profiles (until there's an upgrade)... i just commented out lines 921 through 956. so now, all the threads work again for viewing and replying. the only issue is all the user names are text, and not links. ...but i can live with that for now! hopefully the upgrade (later this... year?) will just swap out all the bad for the good, anyway. regardless, thanks for your assistance, gliderdad!
