I have just upgraded to 7.5.6p2 from 7.1. Mostly went smoothly but I have a forum just for moderators. It is a hidden forum that only moderators can see.

On upgrade NONE of them can see it. As an admin I can still see it.

BELOW that forum ie:
Forum > Moderator Forum > Rubbish Tip

Is another sub forum called Rubbish Tip where mods drop posts that they want an admin to look at. They move them from wherever to that forum and let me know about it.

It is also a hidden forum that only mods can see.

They can still see that one by entering it directly into the url string eg:
http://forums.ski.com.au/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=35

I have copied the permissions from that forum (35) to the one they can't see in the control panel but that hasn't helped.

In the control panel for forum management I have:
Administrators 1
GlobalModerators 1
Moderators 1

All the rest 0 (this is the same for the forum they can see).

Any suggestions on any other settings I may need to adjust?

I have set one of my moderators to "global moderator" which didn't exist in 7.1

They can see all the hidden forums that my regular moderators can't.

Don't know if that helps. Don't want to set all mods to global however.

First is since this is a upgrade. There were some bugs on older versions. I can't recall but it had to do with group assignments.
So I would select say one moderator and go through their settings.
Making sure they are in fact a member of the moderator group.
Using group management in the ubb control panel as well as member management to see what groups they belong to.
Just because they are listed as a moderator of a forum does not mean something is not amiss.
So even if the user looks correct then re-save the info to rewrite to the database.

Then I would goto forum permissions.
Same thing.
I know you stated that you have moderators set to a 1 but that was somewhat meaningless.
There are several settings.
Can see forum. Can read topics ,Can create new tropics. for starters.
So if you have them able to Can read Topics but can't view the forum then they can't see the forum.

So more details are needed.

I am not being curt with you but more details are needed to resolve your issue.

OK I have already done most of that but details.

- Changed one mod to Global Mod. At that point he could see this forum.

- Changed him back to normal Mod and the forum disappeared again.

- So he is definitely a member of moderator group.

- Taken the settings from the one below the forum that they can't see that they can ie:

-> Mod Forum (can't see) -> Child Forum Rubbish Tip (Can see)

And copied those settings to the Mod Forum and saved. So they can the settings of the 2 forums are identical. Can see the lower one but not the upper one.

Checked can see, can read, can create etc and they are all set to 1 for Moderators.

They still can't see it.

First. global moderators and regular moderator groups are two totally different groups which each have their own forum permissions as well as group/site/cp permissions.
Changing him back from a global moderator does not mean he is a moderator nor does it mean he is in a moderator group.
Or does it mean a regular moderator has permissions to access that forum.

I realise that.

OK if I go into Group management there are 22 members listed in the group "Moderators" which is group 3 and one of the unremoveable ones.

The guy I changed to global and then back to moderators is listed there.

If I go into any of their individual profiles and their permissions they are in the group Users (checkbox) and Moderator (radio button).

If I go into the permissions for the Moderators group they have a 1 next to everything to do with the forum (read, post, see etc) and I have re saved that.

If I create a new group "Moderator Forum" and set them all to members of that as well and make that group read/post/see etc to all the forums is that likely to help?

Is the fact that they are a member of "Users" that can't see that forum and a member of "Moderators" likely to be causing a clash? Should they be taken out of "Users"?

We posted on top of each other but in this case. A member can be associated with users as well as moderators simultaneously with no issues. unless you have some minus 1 (-1) settings. Then you need to be careful.

I sent a pm to you but I would suggest you open a support ticket.
If you think you ticked all the boxes required.

I had the same situation when I did the upgrade from 7.2.2 to current.

I ended up having to create a group for the moderators, add all of the moderators to it, and set the permissions in their forum so that they could see it. As far as I am concerned it is a bug in the newer versions.

I'm thinking that you may be setting the permission for "moderators" to see this forum, versus setting up a group and assigning users to that group and assigning that group access to the forum.

A moderator is defined as a moderator of THAT forum, hence say AllenAyres is a mod of THIS forum and I am not, I would thus not have access to this forum.

Thanks Gizmo and Steve. I have created a group that can access that forum and put all the mods in that group. I suspect the reason they couldn't see it is because they weren't mods of that forum. The one below that they could see they were all mods of.

All good, thanks.

I had to do the same thing along the way with upgrades. Don't remember exactly which version it showed up in...
