OK I have had a thought re spam but can't work out if I can do it or not. I guess I could just play with settings and members and see but I figured there may be a hidden setting or something not obvious.

My idea is that a "New" member, ie one with less than say 5 posts gets put in a custom group and they move from that to "Users" after their 5th post.

Prior to that they have some restrictions placed on them. One of those is that their posts must be moderated. Once they move past 5 posts they no longer need moderation.

Now I see in the group settings that there is an option for "Can approve moderated posts"

I have a team of mods but this type of thing needs to be actioned quickly and could also be done by members of long standing in the community.

Is it possible to setup a group that has "semi-mod" powers. ie they can approve moderated posts but that is about it.

The idea is I could have 40 or 50 of them and so some would always be online. New members post and half a dozen of them instantly get the notification and provided it isn't spam it is approved. If it is spam it is declined.

Eliminates spam from the forum.

I don't want these guys to have any other moderating roles, just approving non spam initial posts of new members.

Is it possible?

Also as an Admin I should get these notifys of posts needing approval as well shouldn't I? I have it set in the group permissions that I should get them and my profile preferences say that I should get them as well. However it seems only my mods are getting them.

I currently don't use "global moderators" at all, perhaps I could use this for this purpose?

careful using global mods as they can mod about any forum. It would depend on the permissions you gave global mods..

Personally I would set them up as a normal moderator but only allow them mod privs on the forums that they would help/be responsible for.
