When I do my forum-wide mailings I always get a few messages back from people who no longer use the forums and who want to unsubscribe from the mailings.
Right now when I go into Member Management I don't have a way to do that. I'd have to log in as them and change their preferences. I don't want to do that both because it's slow and because I don't want to be "in" their account like that.
So I instead ban them, since these people are really saying they don't want to deal with the forum any more.
It would be nicer if instead from that admin area I could mark them as "do not mail" - which is really what I want to be doing.
I'll note when I do my forum wide mailings that I select all members who aren't banned. I assume that will still exclude people who indicated they don't want to get mailings. I don't see an option on the select screen to choose for that field.

1. Since these particular individuals "no longer use the forums", i.e., they have to intent of being a member, then why not delete their accounts?
2. I think your suggestion is worthy of consideration as an addition... having the option in the user's Profile to "do not mail" or some similar phrase.

I agree, we can muck with most of their settings as an admin but not some others... I figure we should be able to edit them all.

If a user has 500 posts and I delete their account, I believe their posts are now compromised. I don't want to affect the posts in any way. I just want to stop the system from bothering them going forward.
The user does already have a "do not mail" option, so I want the ability to get to it from the control panel.

Delete member and do not alter posts. Ownership will be set to Anonymous with an Anonymous name of: username.

Right, I'd rather not have the forum filled with anonymous posts. The user isn't asking for their posts to become anonymous. They just want to stop getting the email messages. That's what I meant by the posts being compromised - I don't want to touch the public view of the posts at all.

No problem, I had a spare couple of hours and figured it was pretty beneficial...
