V7.5.7 I turned on the Tweet and Facebook buttons under Display Options / General / Topic Display Options recently.
I got a message soon after from one of my long time users asking if there was a way each user could turn off those buttons. He explained that his work management restricts access to such social media sites, logs each attempt and has IT department send a report / notification when excessive restricted access attempts are made. Since I have the same restrictions / notification at my work, I turned those button features back off.
So, I request a feature be added to allow each member to toggle these social media features (and any other social media related features that may be added in the future) on and off via their preferences, assuming Admin has turned the features on for the entire board first.
Thanks Paul C

+1. I agree most of my members use a desktop with same restrictions. Because they are an employee of a municipal government. They get knocked off the site due to their IT department.
I am not a hacker. But it appears the same mod change for tool tips could be applied for this feature also.

A problem I see is when we move to allowing "Social Login"; the issue here would be when it's "allowed" it'll have to be globally on, since a user would use it to login there would be no preferences...
How do these users deal with sites that use facebook connect, everywhere has these buttons now (news sites, google has the +1 all over their site, video sites have share buttons, etc).
In my experience these triggers aren't sent unless someone actively engages with the connect boxes (by way of actually sharing content) and just the buttons being there there isn't a trigger...
You might have to consult with the creators of the software (or one type of software) to be sure; but i'd imagine a good chunk of the net shows share buttons at this point, it's just how things are done now (especially forums) to get users attracted to content since it's free to do and works with active pages on fb...
