Search is not finding posts that contain some strings my forum members are searching for. It is forum for keyboard users and the model G70 is frequently used. But searching for G70 .... or even just 70 returns no results even though I can see those posts. However other strings in those same posts are found. What could cause this?

Are you using the mysql full text search? If so then results 3 characters and below will not be found, try changing the search type in the control panel.

Changing the search type to UBB.Threads Internal did solve the problem. So many thanks for directing me to the search config. I hadn't seen that before and I wasn't aware of the 3 character limit.

Full text is faster and more powerful but has a default 3 character limit that can only be adjusted via the MySQL config.

Also full search ignores keywords from mysql and does not find numerical strings such as at my site many searches are for example: 350.20(a) 430.150 Table 300.50 Switching to the internal is better in my case.

Unless you have full access to MYSql config as Gizmo stated you have no control on your results page. Like I said I went to internal for my situation. It is not a bug,It is just that ubb can't override the MySQL config settings. That is something either your host must do (probably they won't). Or if you have a vps or dedicated server you can set yourself.

While using UBB.threads Internal did fix my 3 character search problem I have found that selecting "Advanced" "In Body" results in an SQL error. But "In Subject and Body" works just fine.
