I've never noticed it before but we had a few employees point out today, all at once, that they aren't able to find certain posts on our intranet UBB (7.5.5) - I tried some of the words they were using, which are common ones here at work, and sure enough I got no results. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Would upgrading to the newest UBB Threads help this issue? Thanks for any help.

Use the UBB Internal Search; the MySQL FullText search cannot do words of or less than 3 characters.

Don't have much info currently on the item at the wiki but: http://www.ubbwiki.com/wiki/view/87/search.html

I tried updating the control panel settings to internal and 2+ characters...but it still won't find the words "IRA" or "tax." I know there are posts that meet this criteria but it just won't locate any. Same thing the FullText method did. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks for your help.

Humm. well UBB internal threads should override the mysql settings.
So what about the other settings.
Maximum Search Date Range: Warning: Large ranges can lock forums until the search is complete.

That won't do it, it's a config entry for your MySQL server itself that needs adjusted (the setting in the UBB is just if you change this setting). If you just turn your search setting to "Internal UBB Search" versus "Full MySQL Search" it'll fix the issue. If you're adamant that you "have" to use the "Full MySQL Search" (as opposed to the other option of "Internal UBB Search") option then you'll need to go and do some research on the web for configuring your MySQL server to allow searches of less than 3 characters. See the UBB.Wiki

Max date range is set to 2 years (especially when searching for something like "the" it should come up with something for that!) - max results is 200. I'm baffled!

Then back to your first post. Will upgrading resolve the issue.
POSSIBLY. There were some tweaks made to the search function after 7.5. As far as gizmo and myself we are using the current version and it works. In fact you can search here for "the" and get results.
Using the UBB internal option bypasses any MYsql limits imposed such as number of characters or keywords. (and,or,etc)
