Most of our users love the topic preview, but some are looking for a way to disable it. I added a javascript function to disable it for iOS and that works well. Some desktop users would like a setting in User Profile settings. I can probably come up with something but don't want to reinvent the wheel - is there already a way to do it?

Easy to do if you have a spare custom profile field.
Sd has a mod on this.

This feature will eventually become stock and not take away from the number of custom profile fields.

Thanks for the link, that's helpful. That method did work, although there were a couple of things I didn't like about it - the setting appears on the profile preferences rather than display prefs page, and it isn't a radio button. I ended up adding an additional field to the User_Profile table (USER_TOPIC_PREVIEW), and made the appropriate changes on editdisplay.tpl, editdisplay.inc.php, changedisplay.inc.php, and postlist.inc.php

Hopefully I didn't miss anything but it seems to work well.

Well you never said.
But the beauty is you got it to work the way you desire.
Just bear in mind.
it is a mod and not supported here.
So when ready to upgrade you probably will need to add it back in.
