Hi

If have got some problems with the version 7.5.7 (I upgraded it from 7.5.6.p2). Linux system.

-When I want to write an answer in a thread and copy a longer text in the posting box (with ubbcode) and then submitting it, there ist only a blank box to see. But there is no text in it. When I am using HTML everything is ok.

-In the admin area (control panel) I only see a blank site when I want to go to the "primary settings" and "members settings/management". All other settings/managements are ok.

-In thte "whos online" box , there is always the same person listed, even he isnt online. And it doesnt "refresh" and show the users that are really online.

-Many of my PMs (private messages) are gone. The threads are still there and the boxes too. But there is no text in the boxes anymore.

I would like to install the newest version (7.5.7) in another directory on the same server and use the SQL database of the current forum (with everything in it/all categorys and so on). The current forum can then be deleted.
Is this possible ? And how could I do it ?

Perhaps the problems are gone with that procedure...

I hope you can help me and understand my problems wink

Thanks
Matthias

Wow,
Too many issues to be a one answer.
Could be a bad upgrade!(meaning a corrupted file or uploaded over a file you should not have)
Could be a file/folder permission issue.

Could be a cache issue related to all the above.

Installing in a new directory is not a issue.
Copy over your old forum.
Edit the includes/config.inc.php for new paths.
Get it running then upgrade to 7.5.7
Probably what you needed to do as a test anyway.

You would treat it the same as moving to a new host.
I don't suggest using the old dbase with a newer version not installed without the upgrade option.
Bad habit to get into.
Because some upgrades will modify the database depending on what version you are upgrading from.

Well, i have cleaned the cache in the forums control panel (and in my browser) and did rebuild all the content.
Also set almost every directory to chmod 0777 and almost every file to chmod 0666.
I hope the is no security issue now...

The problem with the "whos online" box is solved now.

But everything else still exist.

@Ruben: I wanted to install the 7.5.7 version into a new directory (no upgrade from 7.5.6.p2) and then import the sql database (like from 6.5 to 7.x) to that new installation.
Is this possible or shouldnt I do that like you said ?

You must use the upgrade.php file not the install.php.
When doing a normal upgrade unless it is a legacy product which requires a import.
So it can look to see if alters are needed in the dbase tables.
That said if you are going to import a 6.5 dbase then you need to run the import script in the members area and follow the directions from the members area.
I would not attempt any shortcuts unless you are very friendly with ubb.

Note:
There is a bug where since version 7 a new class moderator was added and causes a issue.
By upgrading to like 7.0 then 7.5.7 will help.
Or just fix the issue after upgrading.

That's not a good method to upgrade... You're skipping any possible db changes by doing this...

You should really REALLY follow an Upgrade Guide.

I used the upgrade.php file to update the forum from 7.5.6p2 to 7.5.7.

How can I see if I got the problem with the "new class moderator" and how can I fix it after upgrading ?

@Gizmo: I used this upgrade guide to upgrade my forum:
upgrade guide

Is this an old guide ?

But all my problems still exist....should I or can I run the upgrade file again when uploading all the files again ?
Perhaps the were some problems with the first upgrade...

Thanks

First you are talking two different animals.
Upgrading from a 6.5 database to 7.x is different than upgrading within the 7.x series. You will need to use a importer from the members area.

If you already ran the upgrade script with the proper existing version then it maybe you either uploaded more than you should have or you missed a few folder/files in the process.
Running upgrade again will not help but uploading all the correct files may.

Missed that part.
But it is easy.
Login to the ubb control panel.
Using the member management link look for who is listed as a moderator.
If it seems that they are incorrect, meaning there are hundreds over the expected number then you have the problem.
But I doubt this is your problem.

@Ruben: I dont have the problem with the "new class moderator".

I uploaded alle the files (from version 7.5.7) to my server again and set the permissions (directory 0777 + files 0666) like the upgrade guide said.

The problems still exist and I can not run the upgrade.php again because I already did it some days ago.

I uploaded the styles/common.css and styles/admin.css files too.
Was this a mistake ?

Is it possible to run that upgrade file again anyway ?

Well you are going to need someone to take a peek under the hood.
Gizmo is lurking here now.
I would ask him.
Or open a support ticket.

I would suspect you have a bad or missing file.

I do recall there were some issues with the language files early in the release where you were required to upload them.

BTW on a upgrade you are not supposed to upload all the files from the zip.
