Don't know if this is a bug, a new feature, or a setting.
After our admin upgraded from 7.5.6 to 7.5.8, using the Quick Reply box now replies to the thread starter and not the last post in the thread like it used to.

Hmm. When we were on 7.5.6 I could swear that it did reply to the last post in the thread, one of the users mentioned the change when we went to 7.5.8.
Thanks, I'll just tell them to get used to it unless there's something in the code the admin can change.

if you use the reply button in the post it will reply to the author. If you use the quick reply it will reply to the topic starter. now I have not confirmed on this latest version if there are any changes on this item. Maybe somebody else will chime in.

I just compared the addpost.inc.php script file (the one which handles replies, including the Quick Reply) from 7.5.6 Patch 2 to 7.5.8 (which I encourage you to do yourself as well) and they files haven't changed in a way that would affect this behavior (in fact the only thing which has changed is the php compatibility fix, the header comments, and the removal of a variable for image processing for gallery forums).

Just to be clear, I am talking about the Quick Reply box at the bottom of each page, not the Quick Reply button in posts. Here's a few examples of how it used to work.

Just to be clear, I am talking about the Quick Reply box at the bottom of each page, not the Quick Reply button in posts. I understand that and stand by my previous post; if you look at the HTML coding you can see that the reference I made to the script file is that which is utilized by the Quick Reply response box; html coding below: <a name="quickreply"></a>
<form method="post" action="/forums/ubbthreads.php" name="replier">
<input type="hidden" name="preview" value="0" />
<input type="hidden" name="ubb" value="addpost" />
<input type="hidden" name="quickreply" value="1" />
<input type="hidden" name="Board" value="3" />
<input type="hidden" name="page" value="1" />
<input type="hidden" name="Main" value="49828" />
<input type="hidden" name="Parent" value="254311" />
<input type="hidden" name="what" value="showflat" />
<input type="hidden" name="fpart" value="1" />
<input type="hidden" name="Icon" value="book.gif" />
<input type="hidden" name="Subject" value="Re: Quick Reply" />
<input type="hidden" name="gallery" value="0" />
<table class="t_inner">
<tr>
<td class="tdheader" colspan="2">
Quick Reply:
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="alt-2" width="17%" valign="top">
<div class="small">
HTML is enabled<br />
UBBCode is enabled
<br />
<input type="checkbox" name="addsig" id="addsig" value="1" checked="checked" class="form-checkbox" /> <label for="addsig">Add Signature</label>
</div>
</td>
<td class="alt-1" width="83%">
<textarea tabindex="1" cols="80" rows="14" class="form-input" id="texteditor" name="Body"></textarea>
<br />
<select name="convert" id="convert" class="form-select"><option value="markup" selected="selected">using UBBCode</option><option value="html">using HTML</option><option value="both">using HTML and UBBCode</option></select>
<br />
<input tabindex="2" type="button" name="textcont" value="Submit" class="form-button" onclick="submitPost()" />
<input type="button" name="textcont" value="Preview Reply" class="form-button" onclick="doPreview();" />
<input type="button" name="textcont" value="Switch to Full Reply Screen" class="form-button" onclick="switchAdvanced();" />
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</form> The following line tells the UBB system that it's to use the script file "addpost.inc.php". <input type="hidden" name="ubb" value="addpost" /> It's entirely possible that the coding changed in a build previous to 7.5.6 however between 7.5.6 and 7.5.8 there haven't been any changes that would account for this behavior being different than what it is now; and you can open the script file yourself to see just that.

Okay, I do apologize. It appears that it was 7.5.5 and the admin said that it was slightly modified.
On that note, is there any way to modify 7.5.8 to make the Quick Reply box default to the last post in the thread?
I know enough about the code to be dangerous, but the more capable admin and support staff are the ones that would modify it any way.
