crap...

Ive been emailing from UBB for years...never seen this, until now....

I have no idea what it means or how to fix...

thoughts?

If you can help above and beyond responding with a tech answer which may just confuse me even more, I'd truly appreciate it...

Looks like you lost your connection to Mysql

MySQL server has gone away
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/gone-away.html

If you are able,I would look at your server logs.
It could have been happening fora while and you just noticed it.

Well the error itself is a connection issue with the mysql server.
The software lost connection to the mysql server.
You have a host site where your pages/scripts are and the host provides access from your site to a mysql server.
Meaning call your host to fix.
It could be a one time issue,Due to the host was making changes. Now if you have a dedicated or vps server it may be your job to fix it.
But if you have a shared hosting account then you probably don't have access to fix any of it anyway.
If you enabled the server logs in the ubb control panel,it may give you more info on what happened.

I assume you have not upgraded UBB.
It could be your host changed the mysql server location.
The default is usually localhost.
Which can be changed in the ubb control panel.

So I would be surprised that you don't have multiple issues if you can't connect to the mysql server now.

So it could be a temporary thing with the hosting company.

This error "Warning: MySQL server has gone away" isn't saying that the MySQL server is down, it's more saying you are out of resources... Just the first couple of responses from Google (such as this) should be enough to show that and unfortunately we can't really do anything to "fix" it but tell you to try again with more resources allowed for the MySQL server.

is there a way to allow more? thanks for you help on this....so weird its happening...

One thought, maybe....we had some email issues with another domain on this server. A smaller one, but one where we use the email quite a bit (its our photography studio) and we been getting some emails bounced back, undeliverable, because it got blacklisted by some. crap!

did some research, and some said there was spam emails stemming from a dif domain that has vbulletin, and spam emails coming from it...could there be a possible connection?

this dedicated server doesn't have a lot of domains, but maybe something happened, got hacked?? (i heard Vbul was suceptible to attacks)
to recap, we have:
nobsphotosuccess.com ubb threads
westmountphotography.com (my studio)
infernoworkshop.com (very small, info and promo only)
costarica-rental.com (personal, our condo)
northernontariofishingforum.com (vbulletin...not a ton of members....maybe under 1000...its my biz partners site)
yamahamotorcycleforum.com/ this one's been around longer, 28,000 members. it may be the culprit (it too is my biz partners)

a few smaller ones..http://www.hodginsphotography.com/

and http://miningindustrialphotographer.com/

maybe????R

You could link your webhost to the link I provided and see if they can bump the max ram MySQL is using up and see if that fixes the issue; it's really just a matter of messing with variables but if you're not sure what you're doing I'd advise you against doing it yourself
