Since upgrading to 7.5.8 from a 7.4 version, I have been having width problems in some of the left column islands including the Shout Box as well as width problems in short sentence posts.

Assuming these are both a bug problem, how can these be fixed?

Actually, the same width problem is also happening in the right column.

I have only seen issues with long messages.
can you provide a example like a url or post a image?

You can also look at the various widths in the Islands in the right column.

I moved the ones in the left column into the right one.

Looks like the style is hosed.
Have you tried the default stock styles?
Also did you follow the special instructions to upload
styles/admin.css
styles/common.css

Not sure what version you upgraded from.

I upgraded from 7.4.1p2 and yes, I did upload those css ones after the upgrade.php told me to do so, as I had forgotten about that.

Didn't it say not to upload the styles?

Will need to look and see what I did do.

What are you referring to as the stock styles?

Only the two css files in styles nothing else.
But also if you did you probably need to update your custom styles to make entries in the new classes.
Need to read in install/UPGRADE_INSTRUCTIONS.txt
That is why I asked if you turned on a stock style for testing.
Kinda a old version.
need to research it a bit for other tidbits.

I will read that, etc. and no I didn't turn on a stock style for testing, whatever that is. smile

Maybe that txt file will enlighten me.

I read this:
Quote
You will also need to copy over install/styles/common.css and install/styles/admin.css from the install directory to the corresponding forum styles location.

Is this correct, as I only found those two files in the styles folder, not in the install/styles folder.

Must be a typo n the path, yes it is under styles.
I am not a style person.
But it appears that it needs to be reviewed and make edits as needed.
Anyway, in the ubb control panel
under styles.
Make active ubbthreads-stock and ubbthreads-dark.
Then at the bottom of the forum select them in the style chooser
See if they display okay as a test.

Also those instructions seem to be more for 7.5.7 rather than for 7.5.8.

I don't see either of those choices in there to activate.

The only one I see, other than my customized ones, is ubbthreads, which I assume is from my 7.4.1 version.

Standard upgrade procedures are to not upload the includes/ styles/ or cache_builders/custom folders.

If you choose to upload files in the styles folder you'll want to take special care that you do not upload the wrappers.php file.

As for the column width issue, the shoutbox's input box is now 30px wide; in earlier releases it was 15 or 20px wide; the issue is that the columns' width varies user to user based on how gigantic their screen resolution is, so users with a smaller screen will have the shoutbox column forced larger to accommodate the size it wants to use when drawing out on the screen.

Edit templates/default/island_shoutbox.tpl and look for the input line and adjust the size variable.

Wrapper could fix it since we don't know what you have in your wrapper, and it is part of the style.
But fyi it only fixed the default style, the other selectable styles are still broken.

Thank you for the other info. smile

I suspect it was the t_inner table setting in the wrapper. usually it is 100%

Is this the one that I am supposed to change from 30 to 15?

Code
<input type="text" name="shoutbody" size="30" class="form-input" maxlength="255" value="" />
