At the bottom left of every first post it states I can list as an event in the calendar. I can't see where that would be helpful. Could someone clue me in?

First the calendar feature needs a lot of attention to enhance it.IMO
But anyway say you have a event for a specific date.
You create a post. And add it as a event.
If you view the calendar you will see a entry. When you click on it , you will be redirected to the post.

Kinda cool. Not sure if it is worth all the trouble. I think it is a bit big. I wonder if people have to put their birthday in their profile. There is like no one who has it or has it set to show.

Birthdays are just a auto action to appear. another enhancement needed.
It needs to be a user preference not cp controlled.
But it would be useful for sites that have scheduled seminars,podcasts.
Things of that nature.
Where one could just view the calendar to see upcoming events.
