Hi to All,
My name is Darryl, I am an admin (newly appointed) of the OutdoorKing forum, running UBB 7.5.8 and have an issue that I can't sort.
We have an Inline Uploader installed which needs the post mark up to be set to Using HTML and UBB Code to function correctly.
One of our members has asked why he cannot change the mark up of his post...(ie.) He doesn't get a choice of having both codes enabled...
Here is a screenshot of his posting page....Click [Linked Image <br />Here is a screenshot of what it should look like...Click <img src=
Many thanks,
Kindest Regards,
Darryl

HTML and or ubbcode markup must be enabled in the permissions of the control panel. it is set per group.
Allowing html posts has always been frowned upon.
If the poster inserts bad html it could break the forum.
Let alone adds a security risk.
anyway
goto
control panel/Group Management ยป Forum Permissions for each group desired one at a time.
select
Can post using HTML
place a 1 in each forum you want it allowed

do the same for
Can post using Markup/UBBCode

select the update button.

Repeat for the next desired group.

Also wiki is your friend

BTW,
As I recall for SD's upload hack you only need UBBcode enabled.
I just registered at the site and the default user group works.
So that user must be in some other group that does not allow UBBcode.
Or I just got lucky and tried it in a forum that allows ubbcode.

Okay,
I posted at the site.
And it works so possibly some permissions have been corrected in the interim.
Anyway you can delete my post at your site.

Hi Ruben, we have another prob....if we wish to embed a you tube video using the media tag ( which is the 5th icon in the above toolbar) it will not load (embed) unless HTML is enabled. We were under the impression that the media tag button would be a work around this HTML issue which we have now disabled for the general forum member.
Kindest Regards,
Darryl

Many thanks,

Hi Ruben, I see that you have done it, but more importantly, how did you do it; as both Bruce (site owner) and I have tried and failed using the 'Media Tag'
This is how I normally do it:
I find a Youtube video that I wish to embed on our forum. I click the 'Share' button and then the 'Embed' button. I then right click and copy the code string....I then paste the string directly into the post. If HTML is enabled (which it is for Admins and Global Mods), I then click 'Preview' and the video appears...click submit and all done.

Could you please tell us how you do it using the Media Tag, as we must be doing something wrong.
Kindest Regards and many thanks for you patience,
Darryl

Many thanks,

Darryl

Hi Gizmo, and thanks for your reply. We tried your solution above and it worked using just UBB code in the markup.
Our problem is that many of our members just copy and paste the you tube address directly from the address bar on their browser.
This address always contains....https: and with that s (I believe that is for security) and using the 'media tag' that 's' in the address will not work....remove it and it will.
UBB code always uses http:

My question is, is there a workaround in the Control Panel to fix this problem?
Many thanks and kindest regards,
Darryl

Give SD's YouTube replacement a shot here.

all you need to do is copy the url for the youtube video.
click on the sixth button paste the url in the box.
the media tag will add the [video:youtube] and [/video] for you
the media tag for youtube works fine on your site.
Just edit my post and see what is there.

Using the share embed gives you html code so that method would require html permission.

I have never used https on youtube url's

I'd just like to state that I agree with Ruben's notations in this thread against allowing anyone (even co-admin's in my experience) raw HTML posting; it's what BBCode is for, BBCode is a parsed format that doesn't allow "creative code" to be embedded on your site.

Thanks for all you help guys, all fixed now.
All HTML has been disabled only using BBCode from now on.
All good advice guys.
Many thanks once again, and, as this thread is now complete, it can be closed.
