I have a troublesome user I can't unregister, because her username is one letter and the software pulls up a hacker name that contains that letter. It gives a message that too many fields were registered for that hacker name (15 or more) instead of pulling up the user I want to delete. I presume a spambot registered the same name multiple times, so the software blocked it. I have tried to pull her up through searching her email, adding her as a mod, post count, etc. I keep getting the other name. Is there a way I can go in and manually delete her?

here is all I remember.
All the member files are in the member folder and they are plain text files so you can open the files and see everything.
In fact you can edit a lot of the file data if you know what to enter.
Such as member 1 is file00001.cgi is like the superadmin.
So you could edit file 00002 and add the administrator text however it is typed to the number two file on the same line and make them a admin.

the 15 or more fields was a stock set limit to registration fields and was modified on a routine basis to add any hacks to the program that needed more.

So to guess what you could do is compare the member file with one that works and delete the extra lines even if blank.
So you don't exceed the 15 fields.
Then goto the control panel and delete the user.

Of course I suggest you make a backup of any files you edit.

If you attempt ay edits including adding more characters to the name, you may need to perform a rebuild in the control panel.

Thanks for replying! I get that hacker 15 message a lot. For example, if someone registers the name Ann it may say Hack attempt for Mergutrann if I look her up and a bot had already registered a similar name prior. She would be able to register, but I would not be able to pull up her name and approve the registration. I never just click on the notification link and approve anyone until I look them up manually first, so I won't get stuck with people I can't ban. I'm used to it and not worried about the hacker thing. I just need to delete this one User. But I'm not confident about how to do it.

Then look at my post above and do some research.
Using a extremely old version(not supported). Will get you in a hard spot.
Most everyone will suggest to upgrade and I agree.
If you refuse to do so then start opening files with say notepad.
I can't think of anyway around it!
The only member here that I recall that uses that version is JAISP.

I have been using UBB since back then and if you haven't resolved the issue let me know. I have a complete 5.45 version still in limited use that I can reference it if we need to walk through a few steps to remedy the problem but it is easy to remove a user with the classic version. /cgi-bin/Members - instead of root / or /ubb folder and a little poking around does the trick.

Just always back-up all files in a safe place just in case.

Good to hear since most of us have migrated to newer versions years ago.
