Not sure exactly what happened. But in short there are a number of files that vanished. Image files, php files for the control panel and login and logout process. I am also having issues with the VPS that the hosting company has been trying to sort out for two days now. I still have no access to the UBB control panel, all it does is show a blank page. The rest of the forum seems to be functioning properly however.

What is the easiest and/or most effective way to fix this?

Thank you,
Joe

Do you do nightly backups? (database or forum files)

Do you at least have a backup of your forum files from when your forum was working well?

Have you read through your log files?

You state that the forum itself is working fine, just that no one can log in and you have no access to your control panel; your issue could be something as simple as files just missing/corrupt on the server. Backup what you can, now.

Sounds to me that your server got hosed for whatever reason.

Refer to post above.

Or pray your host is nice enough to restore a backup they have.

If your forum is missing files and you don't have a backup of those, you can re-download a fresh install of UBBT from the Member Area -- You may also have the installation archive from your original download. Compare the files that you DO have and restore the files that you DO NOT have from stock files of the same UBBT version you're running.

I have nightly backups from the last week but apparently they are no good. I notice that the admin directly had the most discrepancy with files missing and had copied the directory from my development site to my production site but that didn't help with the control panel access. While errors loading the page went away, it will does not fix the problem. I guess I will just have to go directory by directory and compare them.

My biggest fear is doing anything until the hosting company restores access to the VPS so that I can easily do a backup of the databases first.

Thanks to programs such as BeyondCompare, that should only take a few moments to do.

Here's a +1 to Beyond Compare; I use it for every upgrade (comparing user changes).

But as Ruben says, the first step should be trying to access the admin center and then looking at your log files after you get a blank page (so the error is one of the newer actions).

Thank you everyone for your help.

I was able to find all the missing files, it seemed like mostly the login.php, logs.php and logout.php files were missing in various directories. I can now access the forum control panel. I have also made a complete backup of the ubbthreads directory so I have it archived off of the server for safe keeping.
